Mrs. White's Golden Rule Cafe in Phoenix is awesome. The history on the walls is worth the visit. It's been years since I've been there, but it was cash only, and there was no cash register; just a large man with a roll of cash.

Back when I was working in North Austin, Dot's Cafeteria was one of my favorite stops - but I got transferred AND the restaurant burned down so only know what's on the internet for Austin - some place called "Whip My Soul" is supposed to be good.

Dad was taken to a soul food restaurant by a buddy of his when he was in the navy (back in the mid 60s). His buddy who was a black guy asked him how he liked soul food. Dad told him, eh my mom made better. I've been eating all of that stuff my whole life.
