We have similar tastes. A guy I grew up with in a small west Texas oil town is in a band that plays at Poodie's pretty often. I go as often as I can

My friend and I are both 66. He has always been a lot of fun. In fact, he turns 66 in about 3 weeks and usually plays Poodie's around his birthday. So may have to make a trip up there soon.

Snook Watering Hole, Snook

Used to be a place in Sargent called Linda's, not sure what it is called now. Or if it's even still open. The Other Woman in Sargent closed, it was the very definition of a dive bar.

Ortega's in Rosharon

Not really a dive bar in the true sense, but Dorado's Dive Club in Surfside is a cool little place to drink, can go upstairs and get a better than average meal as well.

Belly's on the Brazos in Freeport

Just about any small town is going to have a dive bar of some sort. Some of them awesome, some sketch as hell.

Dickman Hall in Fort Clark Springs is definitely an interesting place.

It's been many moons but Hwy 21 out of dt Bryan on the way to Caldwell used to have several. All good. Had a classmate stab a guy to death in one. Last I heard he was in Huntsville, and hasn't made any of the 10 year class reunions. The most attended one was out Hwy 21 at one of the old Bryan AFB entrances called Nezzies. The go-go dancer was her daughter. I think there is AMU stuff out there now.
The fraternal bars used to all have weekend entertainers .. Mickkey Gilley and his cousin Jerry Lee Lewis, B.J. Thomas and the Triumps, Roy Head and the Taits, 13th Floor Elevators, Bobby Blue Bland, Fats Domino, Sonny and the Sunglows.. to name a few. They played at KC Halls, SPJST Halls, etc. Drank a beer with Ray Price during a break on his bus at the SPJST in Navasota once. Also once with Hank Thompson (and the Brazos Valley Boys) at the SPJST in Snook..

'Dive Bars' has it's fingerprints all over the BCS area.

Was going to post the Gallant Knight, didn't know it was gone. Used to shoot pool with Buckey at the old Marquis II. Been back within the last year and its......changed. That old cigarette-butt-burned carpet was something else. Use to frequent all those old bars mentioned above.

I was there for a good chunk of my life between late 1996-2016… Haha!

I lost track of how many times I walked out of that place when the sun was coming up. Kay's lock-ins were glorious.

Reverend Jim's at Buchanan Dam is no Pavlov's but this Saturday the River Rats are playing. Best bar band for a bunch of guys 65+ I have ever witnessed. Berta dated a few of them in the 70s.
