Looking for some recs on some rum that can be found at specs for a Christmas gift. Any recs? I have no idea on price point of what a good bottle costs.

Like any spirit your budget will dictate things to a degree. Foursquare is a favorite by many that post here. James Cay is another worth taking a look at... With some pretty significant age statements on some of their offerings. Check out this thread...

Rum is the wild west. It really depends on if you know what they like. Four Square is probably the premium product. Tw seems to carry more of their products than Specs. But they're all limited.

After that it's a big argument into what's good, what style, what country of origin etc...

I've bought a lot of $80 bottles that I think are very "meh". Just extreme variability.

Do they like funky Jamaican rums?

Do they like French agricole?

I would do Foursquare over James Cay any day. The last bottle of James Cay I had I did not care for.

Find some from Barbados and get a solid aged one.

I got thoroughly "pissed" at a Mount Gay tasting at my hotel on my honeymoon. Tried some really rare ones, some of which I remember.

I think Diplomatico's Planas (aged white) is really good in a daiquiri.

Plantation's pineapple rum is also delicious.

Just some options if they don't want a lovely, older rum.

Plantation 20th Anniversary is a good gift rum.

This is what I am on now. It is good.

For more money, Ron Zacapa has one for like $80 that is fantastic. The regular Ron Zacapa 23 is about $45 and is the best in that price range. Haven't tried the 4 Squares, but everyone raves about them. They are $99 at total wine, not the cheap 4 square.
