What's your go to sub for that classic busy workday lunch? I live in N. Austin area. Hoodies makes great subs and I haven't been to thundercould subs.

Jersey Mikes and Potbelly are my two favorite sandwich shops right now.

I'll second Hoodie's. I'm moving to the other side of Round Rock at the end of the month, and Hoodie's will be much closer to me. One of his little known secret is that he gets his bread from Sam's Club.

Ginos or Zitos are my go-to in San Antonio. Cravings, Roost, or Marco Polo in New Braunfels

National chains I'd go Which Which > Lenny's > Jimmy John's > Jersey Mikes > Firehouse.

Jimmy John's over Jersey Mikes…….interesting….

So, I only go to Subway when I have Army training……if you haven't been to a subway in a while…..the menu is the wildest thing ever. Too include pizza roles and churros.

Jersey Mike's turkey is straight up flavorless. They have other options that are better, but if I'm ranking the overall chain you lose points when I can't order one of my favorite sandwiches: Turkey-Bacon-Avocado-Provolone

Jimmy Johns is at the bottom of my list. I haven't had Lenny's.

Jersey Mikes > Which Wich > Firehouse > Jimmy Johns

I love Jersey Mikes cheesesteak sandwiches

In Houston, the best deal on sandwiches are probably Bahn Mi. We have an abundance of good Viet places in town.

I don't know of any good independent places in my area. I'm sure there are some great Bahn Mai places, but I've never had one.

Thundercloud subs, at least the one close to my office has NO taste/flavor. I also agree that Jimmy Johns > Jersey Mikes, I dont get the love for JM. Its decent, but not great. I used to love Lenny's but its been forever since I have been to one. Alvin Ords in San Marcos was at the top of my list for a long time.

As far as chains go:

The best hot sandwich is a cheesesteak from Charleys
The best cold sandwich is the original Italian from Jersey Mike's
Schlotzky's has the best bread

I've never been to Potbelly or Penn Station. Jimmy John's is worse than Subway.

The worst sandwich I've ever had was from a Charley's in a gas station in Lamar Colorado. That's my contribution to the thread.

Zito's is good. Their Serious sandwich is amazing. It was a staple in our lunch routine back when I worked close by and had the metabolism to handle that kind of meal.

Notice I have 5 local places listed before my 1st chain even comes into play. I'm not overly concerned about ranking Jerseys Mikes over Jimmy John's. They're both ICE most of the time I eat at either. When I am eating out, I would guess 90+ % of the time it's somewhere local

The last time I had Jersey Mike's, I got the turkey so it was probably just recency bias how bad it was. That said ranking Subway ahead of JJ's is trolling or trying too hard.

I did eat at the Thunderclouds Beck Is referring to a couple of weeks ago and it was a nice reminder of why I never eat at Thundercloud Subs. I had to cut my already small sandwich in half and double up the meat so I could even taste it. I ended up taking the bread half home and used my own deli meat and cheese to finish it off

I'm not a jersey mikes fan. I agree the turkey is flavorless. Their bread is terrible too. Not big on Which Wich either.

I do like JJ. I got to try Primo's Hoagies in Houston this weekend and it's far and away my favorite sandwich I've had outside of a Jewish Deli like Kenny and Ziggy's.

Have not had one in a couple years, but do miss my Zero's sandwich shop turkey ham and cheese. Think they are only in downtown houston, which is a shame imo.

Been here for 20 years as well. All my kids went to Brushy Creek ES.

Hoody's is awesome. Try Kiefers deli if you are down by Q2.

I'm surprised there is not much talk about Potbelly on here. Best for a toasted sandwich IMO. Frequented the one on northgate all the time. Love their hot peppers.

Never had jersey mikes, but one is under construction about 5 minutes from my office. Excited about that.

I am with you on this. Potbelly is the best by quite a bit in my book. Then Jimmy Johns, which is really good and they have good hot peppers. Not a huge Jersey Mike's fan but their hot sandwich is good. I haven't eaten at Subway in over a dozen years, its disgusting. I miss Quiznos. Firehouse is not very good.
