I am not a huge breakfast person and I typically prefer savory over sweet breakfasts.

Since i really like cheese grits, I thought I would give savory oatmeal a go and made some this morning.

1/2 cup steel cut oats
1 1/2 cup water
pinch of salt
shredded cheese
half a teaspoon of marmite

Overall i was pleased with it. The marmite gave a really boost of umami flavor. I think next time I might try some Loa Gan Ma or smoked soy sauce. I think the real key was steel cut oats over rolled oats. The texture was better and held up well IMO. I might try some Scottish Oats next time.

Anyone else like savory oatmeal and have a recipe they can share?

I do a couple types of steel cut oats in the Zojirushi rice cooker: a sweeter one with blueberries and dehydrated strawberries, and a more savory style.

Butter
Half & Half plus water (about 1 part to 2 parts)
Kosher salt
Hot Honey
Sometimes a dash of turbinado cane sugar in the raw
Heaping spoonful of green Hatch chiles (added after the oats are cooked, otherwise they mostly dissolve into the oat slurry)

Just skip breakfast. It's the least important meal of the day.

Salty oatmeal with crumbled up breakfast sausage in it is my favorite breakfast and one my grandpa would make every single morning. It's my breakfast every morning when I have to go into the office because of its simplicity.

You can cook a bunch of breakfast sausage patties ahead of time (best) or get the already cooked ones and heat them up.

I get 2 of the instant oatmeal packets and cook them (at the office, I just use hot water from the coffee maker), then salt to taste, and then crumble up 2 breakfast sausage patties and mix it up. Let stand a few minutes to thicken up, then sit back and enjoy it. It's my morning happiness after fighting the idiots on the road in Houston who are supposedly licensed.
