Also, if you don't know, the Museum has been closed since May and is going under a major renovation. Reopens 12/6. Admission is free that day, but expect it to be packed with a ribbon cutting around 10:30 am. You can RSVP to the ribbon cutting ceremony which starts at 10:00 am.

and lastly,

Island Battle Reenactment. If you haven't seen one of these, I would recommend going. Gives a whole new perspective.....

I walked through that museum when I was maybe 7 years old with my grandfather who served as a Marine Corpsman in the Pacific. I don't know if I've thought of that day since then. Looking back I believe the only thing I took away was that Nimitz was a cool name. What I would give to walk through it with him again.

Here is a pic from the reenactment in February….i was probably 50 yards away when the flamethrower lit up, and you could easily feel it.

How often are these reenactments? I only see the one you mentioned on the calendar.

The schedule for 2026 has not been set, but you can check here for the latest and greatest.

Events | National Museum of the Pacific War

In the past there has been one during the Spring Break weeks (Museum is crazy busy during that time), Memorial Day, and Veterans Day.

If you do want to go, I would buy tickets in advance.

Beyond that, the Museum has a new exhibit called The Rescue. Its on the website, but at the end of the exhibit you get inside a WW2 replica submarine. You are watching the action inside....Come under attack from the Japanese Navy, get depth-charged. It sits about 10 or so people....the benches tilt when the sub dives, and whole thing rattles when you get attacked....It is pretty amazing. Worth the price of admission.....

Normally we do an event around Labor Day, one around Memorial day.

We should have 2 major battles for Medal of Honor Recipients, and have 4 shorter battles. There might be a battle in December next year.

I do know on December 6th the main gallery of the museum is reopening so that should be a good time.

Do you remember what battle that was where you snapped the photo? The flamethrower is pretty fun to shoot but it is a bit heavy, and you can singe your knuckles if not careful.

There are over 700 rsvped for the ceremony on the 6th. That day is going to be nuts…free day but.
