I think I recall seeing this issue discussed before but the fact that sometimes it feels like I'm watching these videos using Real Player on a 56k dial-up connection is frustrating.

What is it that AT&T is doing to the content provider that TA uses that is causing the videos to load soooo slowly sometimes? Is there anything I can do on my end to improve the slow streaming speed?

I'm in Houston on a 18Mbps connection and get that kind of consistant speed when I stream HD on other sites (YouTube, NetFlix, Hulu, Amazon, ect)

probably should call ATT on that one. if you get your general speed up and our test is still less than 80% (up to 8mbps), check back with me, and I'll take look.

U-verse, Sherman Oaks, CA (in Los Angeles).

1st Test
Down: 11.42
Up: 1.46

2nd Test:
Down: 5.25

These seem fine to me, but for the last coupla weeks it's taken between 8 and 39 minutes to download the TexAgs Radio Show Podcast, usually in the 15 minute range, and that stuff used to ZIP down. The slow download speeds have only been with TexAgs....youtube, etc., is fine. Takes about 30 min. or so to download one of the video snippets of Gabe 'n the boys. Again, it's great this morning, so hopefully it's no longer an issue, but man, that was a major pain in the ass when trying to keep up with my beloved Ags. Thanks to ooshwa, neomoon and 87txag for sharing this info.

Seems like Verizon customers are also having problems with the radio show stream. Started last Monday from what I can tell.

That's a slow day at work. It's generally well over 100 each way. I was on Wi-Fi though.

This is a real problem. It took me about 2 hrs. to get the video of the Gabe/Billy chat today, which was about 24 min. long. If this continues, it's going to seriously limit the amount of content I'm paying for.

Bill what I have done when its that bad is download the video. There is an option to save the video or audio. Right click and save as. It downloads normal from there. I know it's an extra step but you can watch it lag free that way.

The issue currently affecting AT&T (and some Verizon) customers has to do with the direct connection (called a peering connection) between your ISP and our ISP. Rather than send data all across the internet, these ISPs create connection points to get traffic more directly (and, in theory, more quickly) from one network to a “neighboring” network.

The problem at hand is that AT&T (and now Verizon) is significantly limiting the amount of traffic coming from our ISP into their networks. This is not a technical problem, but rather a business decision on their part.

We have continued to push for resolve with our ISP and will not let up until a solution is found. In the mean time, if you would like to help, I would suggest anyone greatly affected by the issue to call AT&T (or Verizon) and explain the following...

"I am trying to access the website texags.com that is hosted with Cogent Communications, a provider with which [AT&T or Verizon] has established a peering connection. It is my understanding that [AT&T or Verizon] is currently limiting this connection, resulting in bandwidth speeds to this portion of the internet much lower than my service promises."

This will not resolve the issue immediately, but perhaps if they know their customers are negatively affected by this decision, it will prompt swifter change.

If they tell you that they cannot control the performance of other websites, you can explain that TexAgs is currently delivering content to thousands of users without any problem and has more-than-sufficient bandwidth to provide adequate service.

If they tell you that they cannot control your connection to a specific website, you can explain that it has been determined that AT&T (or Verizon) is, in fact, limiting the connection to this website by way of a peering connection with the hosting ISP.

While I believe this will help, please know, we are not just dropping this issue in your laps. We will continue to press until resolution is found.

ooshwa- Mine runs fine during the day and slows down at night. I just reran the tests 20.67 / 17.90. If you look at my previous post (1/9/13 8:57pm) the speeds were 17.98 / 1.40.

i'm an old when it comes to this stuff so, I don't fully understand it. Is it because there is more traffic at night? I'm just trying to understand it better before I call AT&T. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, ooshwa. Speeds for me are fast enough to watch video today.

I have verizon at work and it was running slow but has improved. I have AT&T uverse at home and premium content is unwatchable. I hope this gets resolved. This should be a sticky on all boards to have everyone complain to speed up the solution.

I have AT&T DSL at home, and AT&T wireless. For about two hours this morning, I couldn't access TexAgs at all--neither via my DSL connection nor over the wireless network.

I don't know if this is related, or not. However, it looks like AT&T sure isn't fond of TexAgs traffic.

Today is the fourth day in a row that I have been unable to watch video due to very slow speeds. I'm definitely not getting my money's worth with this ongoing issue. I'm giving this one week to improve, if not I'm cancelling.

Mad Hatter,

Understood. Your frustration is reasonable. Please email me about your subscription.

also, can run this speed test, then run this speed test, and let me know the download results
