Turn off POTD blue posts in a thread?

How do I disable the POTD blue updates in a thread. Its annoying to have the colors constantly changing as I'm reading the thread.

Or change the threshold for triggering POTD. The feature appears to be widely used, so the 3 STAR threshold is too low. Maybe 15 is the right threshold. This would drastically reduce the number of blue posts.
