Texas A&M sophomore forward Robert Williams announced on Thursday night that, as expected, he is ending his college career and will enter the NBA draft.

Williams was asked about his future minutes after Texas A&M’s basketball season came to an end with a 99-72 loss to Michigan,

“I’m definitely declaring for the draft,” he said. “I’m a little nervous. I’m a little excited. I’m just looking forward to what I’m coming into.

“It’s a grown man league, but I’m ready for it.”

Williams seemed ready last year and was projected as a lottery pick. However, he decided to return and play his sophomore season with the Aggies. He helped A&M to a 22-13 record and its second Sweet Sixteen appearance in the NCAA basketball tournament in three years.

Known for powerful acrobatic dunks and intimidating blocked shots, Williams averaged 11.1 points, 8.7 rebounds and blocked 152 shots in his career. In his final game he scored 12 points, had six rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots.

Williams was named second team All-SEC and Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year as a freshman.

“All in all it was a great experience,” Williams said. “I just learned there is a time and place for everything. Business is business. Fun is fun. I’ve got to separate the two.”

Williams is expected to be a lottery pick in the NBA draft, which will take place on June 21.

“I feel like when I give it my all with my motor I play with an elite level,” Williams said.

Best of luck Robert. I hope you feel like bringing it every game. It is a business.

It seems that it's somewhat tough for him to impose his will because of his limited offensive game. I think an absent motor is more the result of wishy-washyness. That's partly on him and partly on the coaching/development. With the right direction, everything tells me that he has the right motivation, eagerness, and coachability to succeed.

Odd choice. He needs so much developing from a real coach. Will be stuck in D-League for a long long time. Great kid though. And heckuva talent.
