Buzz: Maybe I should just take one suit, it worked well for Shelby
Key notes from Buzz Williams interview
- I think the belief between one another, the momentum that has occurred because of one another; there has been a crescendo because of all of that. Going into Nashville, rightfully so. The only reason we could be in this position is because of that belief in one another.
- Some of those games in that stretch that the opponents' style of play was a little faster than what we would want in a perfect world. What happens is, when you make shots, you're okay with that. Obviously, Chuck Mitchell has been huge in that stretch. Savion Flagg has been really good in the last four or five games - I don't think he was great on Saturday. Those guys and the attention that Josh Nebo continues to garner, which is a product of his teammates, making it a priority to throw him the ball, have been huge for us.
- We're really going to miss Nebo. We're really going to miss Chuck. They haven't been perfect, but they have come a long way. We are not in this position because of A player. We're in this position because of multiple players trying so hard to be their best. If we ever get to a position where everyone is at their best on any given day, we have a chance.
- I thought Jay Jay Chandler was the best he has been all year long at Auburn. We were walking off the floor, and I go, "My name is Buzz." As if I'm introducing myself. It took him a few minutes to catch on. Quenton Jackson starts laughing because he sees what I'm doing. I ask Jay Jay if we should play Q on Saturday, and he says, "Yeah, Coach, that's my brother." Even with a hurt knee, they knew that with the best versions of both of them that we would have a chance to win. We need everyone to be at that in order to have a chance.
- We couldn't take Emanuel Miller off the floor. He was top ten in rebounding in SEC only. I told him if he only got his average that he would drop to 11th. Every ATO, he was asking, "Coach, what's my number?" Because we are so deficient in rebounding, that had to be a priority in that game. I was telling our guys that we had to beat them by +10 on both sides, offensive and defensive rebounds. I thought Eman was phenomenal.
- I thought Quenton Jackson was really good. He's an okay player. I think he'll get better over the summer and next year. He has some moxy about him. Everybody likes Q. Buzz likes Q, old guys like Q, young guys like Q. He can make shots, he's our best on-the-ball defender. He's a conduit to a lot of different things.
- Maybe I should only bring one suit, that worked pretty well for Coach Metcalf.
- We need to re-study Missouri. The team we played in Columbia was not the same team we played in College Station. They way they've played the last four games is much different. Their personnel has changed. We need to lock in on that. If you're not coming back until the last possible day in Nashville, managing the entire week is important. Our routine is vital for our guys, and that helps them physically.
- We have to have a low turnover rate, and we have to be good on the glass to have a chance in any game we play.
- Olin and Logan going to Nashville will be the first media that has followed us all year long. I don't see anybody that talks to us here on the road.
