That's a team of guys that worked great as a unit and had an elite trust for each other. Most of those guys aren't dawgs. They didn't get down on themselves much and rarely flinched when things went bad but that's not exactly the same thing. Taylor was close but 2/15 in the tourney game? Buzz made them a tough unit but individually I don't see too many mean MFers. Marble could be but he just picks up bad fouls when he's mad.

What is our definition of "dawg"? Cause it sounds like y'all want an elite talent rather than just a bunch of tough guys. This team was tough as nails all season. A weak team would've folded when we started 6-5. Our outlook on all of these guys was so different a 2 weeks ago and we're overreacting way too much to a horrid performance.

It's truly incredible how much this boards opinion of our players flipped in a week

My opinion of the team as a whole is the same. They were resilient. Wade was amazing for much of the year but when Bama keyed on him they shut him down and he couldn't generate anything against Penn State. Jalen Jones, Robert Williams, Joseph Jones, Donald Sloan.

Incredible that the other 28 teams couldn't key on him and shut him down

Brandon Miller literally went scoreless the other night but because they won no one blinked an eye

Gimme the ball. Get it the way. We need a basket.

And Wade did that basically all year. He had a rough night. It happens to literally everyone

They have more dawgs to cover it. I don't consider him a dawg. He's just super skilled and better than everyone on the court which I said also works.

I mean all power to you but if you don't consider our first team all-sec PG that dropped 28 on the number 1 team in America a dawg I don't know what to tell you

I was a DAWG. A 5'9" ball of energy who would try to block a Chamberlain shot. Only problem was, talent. It's not that complicated. We played our asses off all year and ran out of gas (and into a 3 pt machine), mentally and physically.
Method Man
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't think we ran out of gas. Maybe we did but the timing is conspicuous.
Method Man

He's very skilled. He did hit that one tough shot in the lane.

Being multiple is the biggest difference. We were really good when Wade Taylor was really good, we were not good at all when he wasn't good if we were playing a decent opponent. And not just his scoring, but nobody else could create anything.

We need more options or we're at the mercy of the draw even more than everyone already is.
which is exactly why boots was a disappointment this year. Couldn't create consistently. We need guard help.

We had to play a certain way to win all those league games and just did not do it against PSU. Plus they hit EVERYTHING. Just my 2 cents.

Are we allowed to discuss things?

Let's discuss it then. How close do we think this program is pulling off seasons like Texas Tech and Baylor recently did, and now the horns?

Current roster, do we think this returning nucleus is pretty good?

Taylor
Radford
Coleman
Marble
Garcia
Washington
Obaseki

And if we can can add at least couple of really good 'skills and dawgs' transfer portal guys to the above…is that a team you could see at least Top-20 and Second Weekend potential?

How far away do we think we are now?

This roster is built to win SEC games just not tourney games but we can't our best player going cold in our last two games. That is why we lost he was neutralized and the others didn't deliver. Dennis scored when the game was already out of reach. Taylor has to get better with his shooting and Stuoid passes and become Acie Law type guard in that he delivers every game. We will be very good again and the experience they earned albeit in a loss is still huge. I've been hard on them but we have get another guard can shoot and a forward who will deliver every game unlike Coleman who has bricks for hands and is soft. Marble gets in foul trouble but must be better. I expect Garcia to be one of our best players next year moving in the starting lineup.

Y'all watching San Diego State? Not too skilled but dawg factor off the charts. Still might lose but they have Bama shook.

Buzz had guys like Jimmy Butler and Crowder. Total dogs. I don't see that here.
We had no NBA players on this year's team.

Buzz' make 'em shoot 3s strategy can prevail overall in the regular season, but not against good shooting guard-oriented teams in the NCAAT.

Need a Butler - an elite wing in Buzz' system, and a big with more hops and rim protections.

The season went as well as it could have.

I'm making a formula as we speak.

Or maybe a skilled/dawg matrix. Some guys like Nowell, Wong, and Timme are skilled and dawgs.

Yes, a graph would be good. What's the minimum skill for a 10 dawg and the minimum dawg for a 10 skill.

The unfortunate part of this is this year's tournament is wide open, an opportunity for a non-traditional power school to make a run. But it won't be us; it will be San Diego State, or Miami, or whoever.

Yes, we need some roster improvement to make the next step, but this team was elite in terms of toughness. Just because we lost two games at the end, one to a great team and the other to a team that had its best 30 minute run of its last 10 seasons, doesn't change that.

The biggest issue that we controlled against Penn State that strategically hurt us was allowing the switches on Pickett. Switching had been our MO all season, but against PSU we allowed the major mismatch of Pickett vs our smaller guards to dictate the entire game. Should have denied the switches and forced Pickett to work against Dennis and Solo all game or shoot over the top of the ball screen.

It was a massive strategic error, but in fairness, up to that point, Buzz had been mostly brilliant in game planning conference play.

The roster will miss Dennis greatly next year. Not sure he's replaceable.

It seems to me that the definition of a 'dawg' is a player that just happened to get hot during the tournament.

The tournament is a big crapshoot. 64 teams in a single elimination format. Trying to make sense of why some teams got further than others is futile.

Winning a conference championship - that's a real accomplishment.
Method Man
How long do you want to ignore this user?
No. That's not the definition at all.
Method Man
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't know what the definition is yet but Q Jackson was the last one we had and Nebo before that.

You can make a run with really skilled players or you can make a run with dawgs. We lack both. I think Buzz maximized what we have overall. He just hasn't recruited enough very skilled players or very tough players. Like Martellus said "we need more guys who eat with their hands".
