2024 combo guard Andre Mills commits to Texas A&M basketball
The Texas Aggie basketball team added a second member to the 2024 recruiting class this evening when Brimmer and Mays School (Chestnut Hill, MA) combo guard Andre Mills committed to Buzz Williams and the A&M staff over other finalists Iowa and Temple.
The 6-foot-4, 185-pound junior shot up the network rankings in recent months with a breakout 2022-23 high school season. Mills is currently ranked No.129 nationally by 247Sports, while he comes in at No.166 nationally by 0n3 Sports. Many national basketball recruiting experts expect his ranking to rise higher after his breakout junior campaign.
Prior to this high school season, Mills was a young, under-the-radar volume scorer and dynamic defender, but playing for the elite Mass Rivals AAU program, he found himself fighting for playing time against several elite collegiate prospects.
However, Mills stepped into the spotlight in the fall and was the premiere playmaker and scorer for Brimmer and Mays, culminating in a 35-point performance in February against Cheshire School.
It should be noted that Texas A&M was the first Division I program to offer Mills back in July 2021 before his sophomore season. Many programs in the northeast such as UMass, Rutgers, Providence, Temple and Boston College offered Mills along with the Aggies and Iowa.
He recently announced a final three list that included Texas A&M, Iowa and Temple.
Mills is considered a versatile volume scorer who will attack the rim, use his size and body for a productive mid-range repertoire and hit perimeter shots. He's also considered one of the top athletic defenders in the Northeast. In a game in January, he blocked the potential game-winning shot and took it the other way with a clinching transition dunk.
Mills' profile seems to fit WIlliams' position-less system in which players who are natural athletes, play tough defense, rebound and can score from anywhere on the court.
As is the case with this A&M staff, they have a formula, identify prospects that fit that formula and offer early.
That's what happened with Mills, and it paid off in a big commitment for the Aggies on Monday night.
