Don't like working so quick trip down memory lane to 2007-2008, when we set our highest average attendance of 10,343:
18-4 at home, 22-9 overall and 8-8 in conference before post season. Coming off Sweet 16 appearance prior year (lost to Memphis 64-65)
McNeese State 73-50 9276 (strong out of gate)
Oral Roberts 67-53 8442 ("NIT Season Tip Off")
UTEP 81-76 8429 ("NIT Season Tip Off")
Ouachita Baptist 85-59 8237 ("NIT Season Tip Off")
Alabama 76-63 10328
Texas State 109-73 9879
Arkansas Pine Bluff 64-37 7789
Detroit 79-39 8912
UC Irvine 88-66 8064
Florida A&M 83-54 8089
Rice 68-41 8702
LSU 79-53 12255 (Jan 5)
Colorado 86-69 12634
Baylor 110-116 5 OTs 12234
Texas 80-63 13555 (!)
OU 60-52 13158 (!)
OK State 54-59 13584 (!)
Nebraska 59-65 11207 (home loss to OSU, followed by big loss @UT, cost us some fans? Then this game was 3rd straight loss)
TX Tech 98-54 10032
Kansas 55-72 12054
This gives me an average of 10,681 from the box scores on 12thman.com, the 10,343 I put in OP was from an NCAA attendance site - not sure why there is a discrepancy.
I was revisiting this thread, it's always a bit surprising to me 2007-2008 still has the record for average attendance. Those 3 home games in a row where attendance was over 13K is wild.
Additional data from the 2 seasons with the highest average attendance (2007-8 still sets the bar):
Texas A&M enrollment
2007 - 46,540
2024 - 78,987
BCS Metropolitan Statistical area population
2007 - Approx. 185,000
2024 - Approx. 287,000
Results
2008-9 : 25-11 overall, 8-8 in Big 12, lost in second round of tourney
2024-25: 23-11 overall, 11-7 in SEC, lost in second round of tourney
