Your undefeated (in conference play) and TOP TEN IN THE COUNTRY (stop the count) TEXAS A&M FIGHTIN' TEXAS AGGIES head on up north to take down the Oklahoma Loosers I mean Sooners tonight in a ranked vs ranked matchup on the sec network at 8pm! Winners of 8 straight, the Aggies will battle Oklahoma who's had a great start to the season, but had a rough match in their first ever sec conference game. The Sooners suffered a 28 point loss to Alabama in a game they were never in.
But the big news of the matchup, will be that the Aggies will be without leading scorer Wade Taylor IV… Suffering a groin injury a few weeks back, Taylor will be out tonight as he may have re injured his groin or it may be more precautionary, we will find out more on the broadcast or postgame from Buzz. However, I believe that this is still a winnable game. Playing without Taylor will be tough, especially on the road, but we have depth and a stellar defense. Taylor wasn't at his best Saturday night shooting 4-12, yet we still won by 20. Phelps and Obaseki will be in charge of ball handling duties and we will be looking at attacking the paint against a smaller and weak rebounding team.
Oklahoma is led by future lottery pick #0 Jeremiah Fears. The 6'4 guard is QUICK and EXPLOSIVE with the ball in his hand and is willing to attack the paint! He is similar to Dylan Harper of Rutgers, but relies more on attacking the rim. He does get fouled a lot and has 3 games with double digit free throws. He averages 17.9 points and 4.4 assists. He does average below .300 from 3 and shot poorly against Bama. OU is also led by #14 Jalon Moore who also averages 17.9 points and 6 rebounds at the forward position. Their center position is played by #10 Sam Godwin who averages 6.6 rebounds and 7 points a game.
As a team, they keep a really short rotation with 4 guys averaging over 26 minutes a game and that's favoriting in that they played a lot of cupcake teams in non conference. Their non conference strength of schedule was 332. For reference only Taylor and Phelps play over 23 minutes for us. So we will have to rely on our depth to push their core group and frustrate them all night long. Phelps, Obaseki, Carter, Hefner, Washington will all take turns harassing Fears and hopefully forcing him into bad shots. They are also really weak at rebounding and don't have a dominating presence in the paint! I hope we feed Coleman and Payne early and establish a paint presence early on! This in turn will open up the outside shots.
Not having 4 will be a challenge, and Vegas agrees, but I believe every game will be determined by our defense. If lock in early on and play tough, gritty, nasty, physical Aggie defense. I think we can win this game. Oklahoma, like tu, wants to get out fast and make it a track meet, but I think our defense can overwhelm them. We'll need clean games from Phelps and Obaseki, and hopefully we can get some outside shooting from all or either Wilcher, Carter, Garcia, or Hefner!
We'll need to rely on scoring in the paint and overwhelming them with our length and size! If Coleman and Payne are both in double figures our chances of winning will be high! Let's attack the basket, draw fouls, make free throws, make put backs, and play Aggie Basketball. We are a great team, even down Taylor. We'll need to be more versatile on the offensive end, but we can still win this!! Let's get to 2-0 and show Blow U what tough SEC basketball is! BTHO oklahoma!!!!!!!!!!!!
