One game away from the halfway point of conference play. After tomorrow nights game at South Carolina, we'll have an entire week till the next game. 7 days without Aggie basketball! And no Tuesday or Wednesday game to help us all get through the week! So buckle in and let's hope we get one more W before the break!
We all had our predictions, we all penciled in some games as losses and some as wins! We've had some fun W's and some heartbreaking (one game in particular) losses. But 16-5 and 5-3 in conference play and a projected seed of 4 is where we stand. We've dealt with the missed free throws, the collapse in Moody, the Obaseki 3 in Oxford, Phelps's Superman takeover in Norman, and Goodine's takeover in Norman, its college basketball. It has its ups and downs. But this is a great team and although it hasn't been pretty, we're in a great spot, a spot like Bobinator pointed out, where we haven't really been as a program.
We all see that donut next to South Carolina's name. Some of those losses were heartbreakers. Overtime against Miss State, a comeback that fell short against Auburn, a collapse blown lead against Florida. But for those few games, they have been blown out as well. 25 to Miss State, 20 to Bama, and 20 to Oklahoma.
What we are up against could likely be one of two extremes. When a team is in a position like South Carolina, it can be easy to mail it in, or they will be fighting for their life with their backs against the wall. We'll see how they come out. Their defensive rating is pretty high, although this will be the worst offense we face in conference play.
We shoot bad, but they are just about the same as us, however they don't rebound near the way we do. They shoot only 32% from 3 and less than 70% from the free throw line. They have two guys average more than 10 points, #30 Collin Murray-Boyles and #6 Jamarii Thomas, who average 15 and 13. Murray-Boyles is a strong presence inside! 6'8 245, whole Thomas is an undersized guard, maybe even smaller than Taylor lol.
They like to play in scrappy games and want to slow the game down. It worked with Auburn and Florida. However, we are the masters of physicality and scrappiness! Losing 8 games in a row with a struggling offense, then seeing us on the schedule doesn't sound like a fun night. Then having to go up against our pesky switch everything trap defense and we can cause lots of problems for an offense that struggles to shoot the ball. (I say that and watch them shoot the lights out because that's how basketball works lol). If we just keep them from the line and secure some rebounds, we can win this comfortably. However, they have shown to he resilient in the past. We need to establish our game, and step on their throats and never look back.
The last thing we need is a dog fight and to be in a tight game while Sandstorm plays. Let's take care of business, then enjoy the week off!! Cause the Good Lord knows the hell this board will be if we lose and not have a game for an entire 7 days to flip the mood, so for that sake I hope we win lol.
