Disagree at your own risk. This handy chart reveals what seed will go with our conference record:

  • 11 seed - 7 - 11
  • 9 seed - 8 - 10
  • 7 seed - 9 - 9
  • 6 seed - 10 - 8
  • 4 seed - 11 - 7
  • 3 seed - 12 - 6
  • 2 seed - 13 - 5
  • 1 seed - 14 - 4
  • 1 seed - 15 - 3

Enjoy the season, Ags.

Updated 2/25
Updated 2/27

Updated 3/5 - now that we have 1 game left @ LSU I'd revise these. Lunardi and others have our seed higher than our ranking. Meaning that being ranked 21st or 22nd in the polls should mean a 6 seed, but bracketologists still have us as a 3 seed or a 4 seed despite the drop in the polls. Trusting the bracketologists over the polls:

10-8 looks more like a 4 seed - but a loss to LSU will have us ranked between 20 and 25 in the polls
11-7 looks more like a 3 seed - a win over LSU combined with the victory over Auburn will land us between 15 and 20 in the polls

Update 3/17 - Ignore that 3/5 update. 11 - 7 is real likely to get us a 4 seed.

Under no circumstance can we be a ten seed?

Last time we went 15-3 in the SEC, just two years ago, we were a 7 seed in the tourney - which seems wild in the context of this year's SEC

Nor can we be an 8 or a 5. I've done the math.

Partially the league and partially that our non-con that year was #253 and despite it being #253 we still ate five losses. This year it was #35 and we only lost two games.

Like Tennessee finished behind us at 11-7 that year and got a 4 seed.

I'm hoping we go at least 12-6 and get a 2 or 3 seed

I don't really want to be on the 4/5 line and have to meet the 1 in the sweet 16

I don't care what seed our opponent is as long as they struggle with 3's. Any team that isn't elite at 3's is beatable.

Joking in the sense that it will never happen, but the question is legit. If we somehow drop every game, are we playing in the tournament? Haha

Yes, we would already make it. 7 q1 wins, 4 q1A wins. A great road and neutral record and our non conference SOS, no bad or even average losses and no opportunity to have any bad losses. Even if we lost every game our NET likely stays top 30.

Record is important but where we finish is probably more important
I think the top 5 SEC teams all land on the 1.2,or 3 lines
6 th place is either a 3 or 4
7 th place is a 4 or 5

I don't think our standing is going to matter at all unless it's VERY close between us, Florida and Tennessee on the 1/2 lines. Otherwise it won't matter because of unbalanced scheduling.

Yep, also if we end up around Missouri, ole miss and Mississippi State our OOC SOS is going to be worth a higher seed. I think we can even finish behind them in the standings and get a better seed.

i remember LSU winning the SEC one year (maybe 2009) when we beat them at the toyota center. that got them a 9 seed.

And on top of that, in the non-conference we had bad losses to Murray State, Colorado, and Wofford...so we had no quality wins in that department and a few pretty ugly losses.

In our non-conference this year, we stacked quality wins over Ohio St., Texas Tech, Purdue, and Creighton and our losses to Oregon and UCF are both Q1.

Jerry Palm has Missouri and Ole Miss as 5 seeds right now while we are a 3 seed. All 10-7 in the conference. Your prediction from early February is looking good.

Lunardi has us as a 3 seed, Missouri as a 5 seed and Ole Miss as a 7 seed.

I don't see a 4 seed outcome. But the win against a 1 seed can change minds, Keep in mind 1,4, 5, 8, 9, 12, 13, 16 all go through the one seed to get to the regional final. There isn't a lot of difference between a 4 and a 5.

5 th best team in the sec gets us the 3 line
6 th & 7 th place probably the 4 line

The problem with selection committees is the tournament funds the NCAA almost entirely so they are there to create matchups that sell eyeballs.

The notion that the SEC is really good this year is more likely to show up in the 1 seed line but I'm not sure how far down they will overload the tournament with SEC highly seeded teams. I expect them to put us in the same region with Texas like selection committees have done for decades…

Why are we looking at the polls? They have absolutely NOTHING to do with seeding.

Honestly, this would not surprise me at all and could end up being an easy way to potentially create a "must watch" round of 32 matchup, and the committee probably would not have to do much mental gymnastics to create it.

Assuming we are a 3 seed, if the sips make it they are likely a 10 or 11 seed, so it would not be far fetched at all to see them as the 11 seed in our region. Not likely they would get past their first game, but its possible. I do wonder though, if we play them in the SEC tournament next week, would the committee purposefully not put them as the 11 in our region (if we are the 3) so as to avoid two teams playing each other 4 times in one season?

Maybe they don't even think about that stuff.
bobinator
How long do you want to ignore this user?

They try to avoid anyone that's played even once, and there's a special emphasis on teams that have already played twice.

With as many SEC teams as are projected to get in, thats might be impossible, but that does probably mean its highly unlikely A&M and tu are in the same region, at least not in the same first-weekend pod.
