I was there and it was taken out of context. A San Antonio writer who wasn't even there said Turge was unhinged and yelling at the Chronicle guy. It didn't happen that way at all. It may not have been the best thing to say, but he was a genuine person and responded in the moment. I'll never not defend him on that.

Well if they said that then that's out of context, yeah. Or not even out of context that's just blatantly false.

I thought I remembered seeing the video, but apparently it's lost to time on the internet.

I'd still argue it wasn't taken out of context though. He meant it. It's not like it was part of a sarcastic phrase inside of a larger point. Maybe the "no flippin win" little bit of it has gone too far, but he meant the larger sentiment that he wasn't going to credit if the team did anything good but was going to get blamed for anything bad right?

Also good to see you on here CK, you should jump in more or tell me what your actual handle is.

Not nearly enough NIL money in A&M basketball to keep Buzz I suspect.

In the post-Shelby era, two coaches have left A&M for greener pastures: Mark Turgeon and Billy Gillispie. Turgeon seemed to always be complaining and looking for a way out of College Station. On the other hand, I think there are lots of similarities between Buzz and BCG. Both are from small north Texas towns, coached the same 2004 - 2006 A&M staff, emphasize team defense, and recruit players that were overlooked by the elite programs.

Would Buzz leave A&M if, say, Kentucky came calling? Maybe, maybe not. Personally I doubt it.

If he stays for next season, he will retire here. Next season will be his biggest coaching challenge. He will have to totally rebuild the roster, and have great success in the portal (like he did this year) to get this team back in the tourney. Given his track record, I expect next year's team to be gritty underdogs who are somehow on the bubble in March. I am already looking forward to see what he brings in. The high character players like Radford, Taylor, Coleman, Obaseki, and many others...it's fun to root for them personally, as well as on the court.

This would be the year to leave. I hope he doesn't, because we will not have a better coach, primarily because there aren't any. Even as a recruiter, the only ones I'm sure are better are Few and Drew, since they built their programs from nothing. I mean that if you put Buzz at Duke or Kentucky or UNC, he'd "magically" be a top recruiter.

There are 350 teams out there, and only one cuts down the nets. Buzz is in that group of the very best who haven't done it. Few, Sampson, Barnes, Painter, Pearl.... Open question, but which ones would you trade him for?

Then you have the list of the great ones who managed to get one along the way...Izzo, Boeheim, Olsen, Drew...

I hope he sticks around and gets 700+ wins.
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough

I think the "general fan" expectation that we have to have a Natty is stupid. So difficult and rare. Competing for a Natty and winning it are drastically different. A lot of luck goes into it (match ups, team health, etc)

If we wouldn't have had the incident with Marble last year, we would have probably been "competing for the natty" by making it further than we did.

The point is, Buzz is great, should stay here, and should be respected and treated as the great coach he is. Enjoy the wins, they aren't easy. Enjoy a coach, the grass ain't always greener.

The fact that Buzz does it the right way, makes it even more fun!
