So you think that the only way the sips are in is if they win the SECT?
Especially if there are bid thieves. And I expect there to be a couple.
There are typically bid thieves every year out there.

tu is sitting in the same position as we were a few years back in needing to show out in the SEC tournament to be on the right side of the bubble. We ended up in the NIT despite getting to the championship game.

I don't see them getting in despite what Lunardi says. Their non-conference schedule sucked and they lost the to the only ranked team they faced. Ironically, you could say that their best win was against us which was really a one point miracle win or yesterday's double overtime win. But the committee typically has the tournament set by Sunday's championship game. So it could be too little too late.

Only difference is the quality of wins they are picking up in the process.

Texas came into the SECT in much better shape than we were in 2022 which is a huge difference. We weren't even really being talked about being on the cut line until we won a couple games in the SECT. They were already close.

That's a massive difference in the two situations even if at this point the numbers look similar.

It would guarantee one less spot for them. Anyone other than Memphis winning the AAC Tourney would be a surefire bid thief.

This. Texas needs to be big Memphis fans, particularly if they lose today.

What about UCSD?
UCSD needs a win tonight to stay in contention. If they do and lose to UCI in the final I think they have alot better chance at an at large than most are giving them credit for. That loss really wouldn't hurt them and they would have a legit case to be in over Texas/UNC. Only way to be certain of course is to just take care of business and win both games.

I do not agree with this. Certainly the only way to guarantee a bid is to win 3 more, anything less and they open the door for heartbreak. But i do think there is still enough time that if Texas wins today they are probably moving into the field as the last of the at larges are voted in.

UCSD really needs to control their own destiny and grab the auto-bid. Their NET is in their favor but nothing else is.

Ya 15 games vs. the quad 4 is always going to be a tough sell. KPI, SOR and WAB all in the 40s helps a bit as does the win at Utah State (counting as a quad 1A win), but it would be hard to argue the logic if they get left out.

I might be late to this party (and will delete if so), but just saw the graphic on the tu-ut game where Lunardi now has the sips as the last team in.

Of course...

They better hope Memphis doesn't lose their conference tourney.

With the sip loss to Tennessee, 8 am pretty sure that Colleyville has tu OUT!

Hope he is right.

If Boise State can beat New Mexico today - then i think they could move ahead of tu in consideration for last invitation. If they win two more games and "steal" the MWC Autobid - then that will certainly put the nail in the NCAAT coffin for tu.

Think CDC quietly would be ok with not making the tourney to use as a tool to move on from RT?

Yeah there's no doubt that they came in looking better than we did during that season, but I was referring the sentiment that they'd have to have a good showing in the SECT in order to be given a ticket to the big dance and I don't think they've done enough.

The selection committee has come out and said that who you play for in the non-conference matters and theirs wasn't very good.

I remember when I was hoping the Aggies could've convince Tre Johnson to come and play in College Station...

Although I like to see tu come up short it is a shame that the kid won't get to play in the NCAAT before he goes pro.

Maybe he shouldn't have gone 0/14 against OU. It's his fault at the end of the day

I could still see Texas making it if NC loses to Duke (hopefully convincingly), and there aren't any bubble thieves.

I don't think the UT loss will hurt the numbers much.

Not sure he needs a tool at this point.

The dropped Pierce last year after he made the tournament.

Texas has a much richer history in baseball. Texas let Shaka go only after he struggled to 3 Dances in 5 years (likely 4 for 6 if the tourney was held the COVID cancelled season) - with no wins those three tourneys. Prior to Shaka Texas had made the Dance 24 of the previous 27 seasons.

Terry making it 3 straight (if it transpires) with 4 wins (at worst) seems like it's not too far removed from how Penders and Barnes usually fared to fire this quickly.

I hope I'm wrong because the trajectory is down and recruiting has fallen off.

Texas will remain out of my projected field in the update tonight. UNC will likely fall out? Last team in TBD but Dayton and the MWC lurking.

Texas and UNC still hanging around the first few teams out and will be given strong consideration into my final field but for now…. Out

With that - can we take the will RT be fired talk to a different thread and keep this one focused on bubble and seeding projections?

I side with the tin foil hat crew on this one...I'm of the opinion that both UNC and t.u. are in. Aztecs, Hoosiers, etc.

UNC was one of the first four out in 2023 in favor of noted blue blood powerhouses Mississippi State, Pitt, Nevada and Arizona State.

is there precedent one way or the other that the committee took tv ratings into account for edge cases ie star power + big name school to slide a team in over a more deserving resume smaller school

There's plenty of evidence they do no such thing but don't let that stop a good conspiracy theory.

Not really no. If you look at the the last 4 in every year there is not really a pattern of high eyeball type teams. Lots of MWC and "small market" programs. Compared to the NIT 1 seeds each year there are some flashy names that got just left out. That's one conspiracy I wouldn't buy into.

Was Bubba Cunningham the committee chairman in 2023? I believe that actually matters in a room of administrators making a decision

It is a 5 year term and this is his 5th year. He was not the chair in 2023, but on the committee.

Moving target if we get moved to a 4 seed.

Most recent years conference tourney results don't matter as much - certainly did not for us.

They did not in 2022 or 2023…. but our win over UK may have been huge last season.
