And a reminder to us all - high points in program history are two #3 seeds (2006, 2016) and a # 5 seed (2010). We are in rare air this year, historically.
This needs to be posted ad nauseam to the casual fans who post complaints about us not being a 2 seed anymore.

Other than conference tourney champions are the conference tourneys even considered in seeding? Seems like the impact is just on who gets left out altogether if a surprise happens because many of the conference tourney finals happen so late in the process.

Short answer- no

Longer answer…well technically we don't know for sure they don't mean jack but all the evidence the last several years points to anything on Friday, Saturday and Sunday is irrelevant. It's a slightly different committee every year though and this one, like the others, swears that every game matters.

"Eye test"? Beating #1 is *the* definition of passing the eye test.

As is a 4-game losing streak or blowing double-digit 2nd half leads to lose to mediocre teams like UCF and Texas. The eye test giveth and the eye test taketh away.

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

And we didn't just "beat them" like we beat Ol Miss or Mizzou (both on the road BTW).

We dominated them from the opening tip to the final buzzer. Love the fact we beat them handily both halves to get the double digit win.

I said earlier that a 2 seed was probably out of reach unless we win the SECT. However, I think now that if we take care of business in Baton Rouge (need to stay focused on that) and then win three games in Nashville in similar fashion to how we beat Auburn, we might get the last 2 seed even if we lose on Sunday in the SEC Championship Game.

Of course, much will also depend on how our competition for the higher seeds does going forward.

How are we a 3 seed when net and ranking equating to 4/5 line?

NET is just a piece of a resume, not the be all end all.

A team's own NET ranking actually isn't even a piece of what is supposed to be considered. It is simply a sorting tool. The predictive/quality metrics that are used are BPI, Torkik and KenPom - not NET.

If we lose to LSU are we out of the tourney and playing in the 4A UIL postseason?

BAS tells me we sh*t the bed this weekend against LSU and lose any hope we have of a 3 seed after our huge win last night.

As skeptical as I am about all Aggie sports now, I think we win this game convincingly.

Both times we earned a 3 seed we made the Sweet 16, being a 3 seed again gives us that hope.

I should have said 2007, not 2006, as the first time we were a 3 seed.

I think we are deserving of anywhere from a 3 to a 5, could see us slipping to 6 just because that last stretch was tough.

The only way I think we could fall past a five seed is if this committee really goes in a new direction toward predictive metrics (or quality metrics depending on your phrase of preference.) But their early Top 16 seemed to really indicate the other way, they're going to lean even heavier on the resume metrics like the WAB.

Yep

Seems like they are using your actual resume over predictive metrics, which is really good for us

They just did the top 16 preview that one week and we're not getting any updates to it until the actual bracket reveal, correct?

Correct, but if they were using g more predictive metrics then we wouldn't have been a 2 seed

The fact that we were a 2 then is evidence that this committee is going more off of resume metrics, as it should be if you ask me.

Yeah even the predictive guys say numbers like the WAB are better for seeding teams because they're a better reflection of what the committee's actual job is.

The committee doesn't like Buzz and/or Texas A&M so I anticipate a worse seed than we expect. We are hoping for a 3 seed so the committee will probably make us a 5. More reason AI and various models should pick the teams and their seed. Maybe let people determine the locations even though AI would do a better job at that as well.

Maybe not last year but the next few years after you have to admit have been suspicious

If they don't like Buzz and the Ags - then why the 2-seed in the "preview" - which comes from that same committee?

And please don't equate it to Lucy holding the ball for Charlie Brown to kick it - only to pull it away at the last second!

For the record, as long as we take care of business this Saturday and beat another SEC team on the road, i fully expect a 3 seed (upgraded to a 2 seed if we make it to the SECT Championship Game - which would likely require us to beat two teams who will be seeded as 2 or 1 seeds in the NCAAT).

Not really. I think they're biased more towards their own laziness than against any particular team.

We were seeded lower than we thought the year before last because we had a weak non conference resume

It's been established that if you schedule a hard non conference and get a few good wins you will be rewarded come seeding time

Yeah, it wasn't just that we scheduled poorly, it was that we lost several of those bad games. We definitely got screwed that year but it was clear they proved a point with us about our schedule and that we lost some of them. Not making the tournament 3 years ago was a pretty big slight but goes with a recent trend. You can maybe affect your seed with the conference tournament but you aren't going from out to in or vice versa based on it.
