The boys should be proud. Hard to play 5 on 8.

Unfortunately for us, this was a Sweet Sixteen or bust team.

The season was great. The ending was not. The ugly side of single elimination

i hate to admit it but you have the most practical attitude. embracing something like this as a "great" season is the only way to have any hope of enjoying aggie athletics. at least we didn't lose to yale.

Let's judge this entire season off of the final game. That works for the other 363 teams in D1 right?

My man, this was the best team we've had in years.

They ended the season with zero accolades. No conference title, no double bye, no conference tourney win, and only one NCAA tournament win.

Arkansas just walked into the Sweet 16 with new players and a new coach. It's tough to label this season as great

we're gonna run out of rafter space if we hang every mediocre player's jersey.

Again, you put way too much stock in single elimination hoops

It's a top 3 season in our history. We beat the #1 team for the first time ever on senior night. There was plenty of incredible moments. It had a bad ending. Doesn't mean it was a waste

The players well overachieved their talents. Can't ask for much more from them.

Therefore its a great season for the players.

That's like saying the NFL puts too much stock in good quarterbacks. Single elimination is how NCAA basketball works! It does that at all levels. The good teams find a way to win under that setting, or at least, go farther in the tournament than the 2nd round.

No team I've ever heard that was worth a darn said, "we didn't go very far in the tournament but damn, we beat a couple of number ones during the year..." 1983 NC State, on the other hand, said "we lost a bunch mid to late season but put together a run that is still memorable."

Give me NC State -- or even the cardiac teams that went to the FF with a double digit seed out of nowhere. Your comment is the not only the acceptance but the justification of mediocrity.

4 seeds should make it to the Sweet16 to call it a great season.

If we played Michigan in a 7 game series, I think we lose 4-2.

Though you're free to disagree, my point is their mercenaries were just individually better players than anything on our roster. The single elimination didn't really factor into this one. The better team won.

It was not a great season. For those of you who have been putting up with Aggie athletics for 50 years like I have everything is a disappointment. The baseball team especially is proof we are cursed. Football had yet another November fade. Buzz has still yet to reach a Sweet 16. Given what we pay him that is completely inexcusable. Our ROI is unquestionably the worst in the country. The sooner you realize we suck as an athletic program the happier you're going to be.

If you've been following Aggie hoops for 50 years you probably watch a lot of ****, non-tournament basketball

A season with good moments doesn't = A Great Season

We beat the #1 team in the nation while losing 6 of 7 in that same stretch. That's not greatness. That's a bright spot in the middle of a collapse. A collapse that cost us a lot to end the season.

I love this team and love Buzz. This was a successful season in regards to winning non-con and making the tournament. The criteria to make it great was missed in every way possible.

Absolutely. We:

Finished 5th in SEC (no trophy there except a YMCA participation trophy(
Lost first game of SEC Tournamnt
Lost 2 of 3 against our rival with a coach ready to get fired) , and
Beat an Ivy League school in the dance, then got man handled in the second round.

This whole damn athletic department is just lost

All the Buzz haters in all these threads...NOT One person has named 1 name that would realistically consider A&M as their destination.

All for them to be our next Turge, or BCG...and Leave.

Firing Buzz would be equivalent to firing R.C. Slocum in football back in 2002. Here we are, 26 Years later with ZERO Conference Championships to show for it. We fail to learn. All this at a "football" school.

Agree with this . Refs allowed Michigan to get back in this and is why we lost. If they call a fair game we are in the sweet 16.

Aggie Basketball is not a priority NiL wise. However, Mens Basketball is The Most Consistent Winning athletic team over the last 4 to 5 years on campus.

Baseball had been great, and are now below .500. If we are so tired of losing in Basketball, we need to Prioritize Basketball.

IMO this season is similar to the 09-10 season (my senior year). That team was also senior-filled and lost painfully in the second round. However, that team also lost a starter in December and finished 2nd in the conference. It also had some future pieces to be excited about.

I didn't follow this team as closely as that team, but it seems to me like this team had more going for it, finished worse in the conference, and has less on the roster for future seasons. Therefore this season had higher expectations and underperformed, whereas the 09-10 team overcame a major injury and still finished well, all things considered.

Bummer for it to end this way, and no clue where it goes from here. I wanted to see us match our best seasons or finally surpass them, but when it comes to conference play (we've won a title before) and postseason (we've advanced further), this team fell short of the mark. Thus, everyone's reaction. And now, potentially, it's back to the wasteland.

I think I'm going to step away from Aggie sports for a good while, perhaps permanently. Someone will let me know when it's time to hop on the bandwagon. 17 seasons worth of following have not really paid off for this Ag, to be honest.

Agree. We need some BMAs (and I am not one) to pony up $$$ and try to bring in at least three to four big time experienced and talented upperclassmen to replace some of the eight players we are losing - and maybe an offensive minded coach to supplement Buzz's staff - not to mention paying the current players what they need to keep them in College Station.

I keep hoping we might consider crossing the western border and raid Albuquerque to grab some of the UNM players - ESPECIALLY PG Donovan Dent (a senior next year) who worked great with the Lobo big man (himself a double double machine) who will be graduating and is out of eligibility.

Dent could help bring Payne to the next leve this next season - and turn him into the best post player in the SEC.

Watch UNM play today. Tru Washington is an even younger shooting guard that we might be able to afford.
