Looking forward to next season!

Thanks for putting together an amazing team.

Time to work on getting Donovan Dent and Tru Washington from New Mexico to replace Wade and Zurich.

High respect for Buzz as a rep for A&M and seems to mold his players for future success once they leave the nest but there is not enough success on the court for what he is being payed.

This was supposed to be his year for at least a Sweet 16 run.

His team underperformed yet again in the post season.

Granted, this is overall an A&M tradition and not solely a Buzz tradition......

Every year, I get more & more cynical that Aggies will win a Natty in football or basketball in my lifetime.

Time is running out as I slowly watch the sand pass thru the hourglass....

Let's do a comparison of the "modern era" Aggie Coaches over their best 4 season stretch. The "COVID-19 Years" of 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 are not part of my calculus - as other Aggie Men's Basketball Coaches did not have to deal with what I hope will be a once in a lifetime atypical phenomenon.

Buzz - the last 4 years, 2021-2025 - 96 total wins. 6 post season wins (4 in 2022 NIT and 2 wins in three NCAAT appearances). Has won more games against "ranked teams" (top 25 when we played them) and "highly ranked teams" (top 10 when we played them) than all other "modern era" Aggie Men's Basketball Coaches combined - which also includes beating the #1 ranked team this oast season - something never accomplished by any other Aggie Men's Basketball Coach.

Kennedy - Best 4 year stretch between 2011 and 2019 was 2014-2018 (other 4 years were horrendous - with no pandemic excuse) with 87 total wins in that time period. 4 post-season wins in his only two post-season appearances, both NCAAT appearances (and both times getting to Sweet Sixteen).

Turgeon - Was here for 4 years from 2007-2011 with 97 total wins. 4 post-season appearances - all in the NCAAT- resulting in 3 wins, though never advancing past the round of 32.

Gillespie - *(I will put him in here even though he abandoned us and went to Kentucky after only 3 years)
Won 70 games total in 3 years - with 3 post-season appearances - winning 5 games (2 wins in NIT and 3 wins in two NCAAT appearances- reaching the Sweet Sixteen his final year). He clearly resurrected Aggie Basketball.

I would contend Buzz is the best of all of the coaches in the "modern era" based on BOTH the overall success and accomplishment of his teams here combined with how well he has developed the young men who played for him at Texas A&M.

Of course, I wish this team would've advanced in this year's NCAAT into next weekend - as I think we mightve been able to get even further, having already beaten Auburn once. But I still enjoyed this season and REALLY enjoyed THIS Team as much as any Aggie Team I've followed in the last 20 years!

I hope Buzz stays in College Station until he retires from coaching!

BTHO the Transfer Portal this off-season to put together a "surprisingly" successful team for the 2025-2026 season!

Gig'em Aggies!!!

The point I made in that last long post was - name ONE Texas Aggie Men's Basketball Coach in the last century that you would prefer over Buzz.

He's the best we have ever had in my time following Aggie hoops.

It's frustrating how Buzz Williams failed to make even one Sweet 16 in his 6-year tenure, but he has been solid since he got here. I hope Buzz Williams recruits players, who can make a high-percentage of free throws and 3-points or find them in the portal.

Our RPI (yes that was the last year of RPI) was something like 114. We weren't even a NIT team.

That was the year we lost to both Harvard and Fairfield in Orlando in November.

That was the year that Buzz took the train wreck that Kennedy left him to a winning record in conference play - and the year Buzz was named SEC Men's Basketball Coach of the Year!

BCG could actually coach and adjust.

Buzz is a good motivational speaker.

Screw the "basketball has never done anything" talk. That's a loser mentality. Auburn has changed their program direction with a new arena and a coach that can actually coach and has skins on the wall. Bama has done the same.

Some programs are interested in winning.

Some programs are interested in continuing the gravy train. And most Aggies, by their behavior of making excuses for losses, lap it up.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Forgive me if my BB IQ is subpar, but I don't see a big difference between these 4 coaches, so I would give the edge to those who went the furthest in the tournament, or may have won a conference title.

BB is just more fun when you can shoot it and score! Unfortunately, Buzz seems to be a buzz killer, so to speak.

Buzz Williams, Billy Gillispie, and Mark Turgeon are all different but of roughly similar quality.

Billy Kennedy not close to them really. He had one outstanding season and 7 mediocre to bad ones.

Kennedy could recruit and got to two Sweet Sixteens with A&M. Buzz hasn't done either in six years.

Actually, they were OVER seeded (i.e. given a better seed than they deserved). In fact, they probably should have been a 6th seed with BYU skating to take a 5 -- although I don't like the idea of using tournament results to justify or disprove seeding. Its probably better to say Michigan/BYU was a wash on Sunday with the tournament win giving Michigan a slight edge (though it doesn't mean anything in other cases, so...)

But here is Colleyville's analysis on Michigan right before selection:

Quote:

19) Michigan (Lock) Lost the last 3 games of the regular season and the quality numbers took a huge tumble (now sitting at 30+ across the board). Making up for it in the Big 10 tournament but still stuck on the 5 line. (Regular Season Over)

EVERY second round game is supposed to be tough. Nit-picking seeds at this level, especially in this case where had we not hit Michigan, we might have hit BYU, is loser talk.

BK also had really bad teams that Underperformed and MISSED the tournament with all that Great Recruiting.

There is a reason BK is NO LONGER our coach, and it's not cause we got tired of winning or he got hired away by a Blue Blood program. BK last coached as a Head Coach 6 years ago! 6!

A lot of hyperbole in this thread. There are reasons none of those coaches are still our coach. BK's health issues clearly diminished his effectiveness. Everyone seems to love BCG, and he was effective for the short time he was here. But in addition to alcoholism, he had other personal issues. He wasn't going to last anywhere very long.

It's also wrong to take shots at Buzz for his efforts to shape / improve the character of the team. His players clearly like him, and play hard for him. Buzz is a good coach and role model. But it is fair to criticize Buzz's offense whether it's the "system" or the players he recruits, or both.

None of our coaches have gotten us where we want to go as a program. It's terribly frustrating for sure.
