This just goes to show how charmin soft this team is, which shows when the chips are down in March.

And it spans multiple years, meaning it's cultural.

It dovetails with bobinator's post yesterday. Buzz has this team thinking they are one family and no one else supports them and everyone is against them.

It's a loser mentality.

If our guys are this upset about the criticism on this board (or elsewhere on social media), they wouldn't last past one bad game at any of the blue bloods.

Im sure most people would take Sean Miller over Buzz Williams but there isnt some kind of gulf between them or anything. They are in similar tiers. If Texas hired Buzz Williams away from us instead of Miller, there would not be any kind of national "what are they doing!?" outcry of any sort it would mostly be received the same except for the relationship of the schools themselves

There is a big gap, but it's actually closer than I thought. Miller has 4 e8, and 3 s16, the last one being 10 years ago and 3 years ago, respectively. Buzz has 1 e8 and 3 s16, the last one being 12 and 7 years ago.

A big gap? Name all the coaches that you think fit between the two of them (ie name some coaches not as good as Miller but clearly better than Williams)

You dont hire a resume, you hire a person who is available. Buzz Williams and Sean Miller are very comparable.

To some extent i get the delusion that we could plug and play Buzz Williams with "the guy at UNT" or whatever. Thats optimism, or grass is greener, whatever. If you think theres other Buzz Williams' waiting for the call from A&M, well there arent many of those, if any.

Not condoning weak minded fans that live empty lives and need to ride 20 year old players, but this goes on everywhere. If our players are somehow less capable of handling it, then we need to look at team culture Coach should be defending fans and highlighting the prevalence of false flag a holes, but instead we let young men whine at the biggest stage of their careers.

It absolutely goes on everywhere and it's much worse in 99% of other programs. Our players are conditioned to be soft though because of the overly nice fanbase.

Just win?

You're absolutely goaltending and this program needs less of it.

These players need to toughen up
bobinator

okay, well if it's goaltending I'm going to keep doing it because hearing someone trash our players and say they have no loyalty annoys the **** out of me so you're going to have to toughen up too.

So yeah, we all want to be better, but I also know how rare it is for us to even be at this level. If you can't even appreciate that a little bit then you're just setting yourself up to be constantly miserable.

That's exactly what some of these people want, to be miserable on a message board.

They'll claim they want us to achieve at a high level, be a premier program and you're just a rube for not demanding more or being outraged. However, when we do cool things or get big wins, they're nowhere to be found. It goes beyond just sports these days, some people would rather have a reason to be mad online than actually enjoy things or even have level headed banter about their team's successes/failures.

Hey if this guy's rich enough I say let him buy out Buzz and go hire Nate Oats. I don't have 15 mil laying around to buy out Buzz's contract and then another $25 mil to go hire Oats, but if he does then I say we go for it.
Nate won't come here, he's at place where all the fans are level headed, rational, and don't freak out every time they don't win. It's not like a crazy Bama fan is gonna go kill a tree in the town of its arch rival after losing a game.
Lmao. Oats is 100x the coach and recruiter that Buzz is. And why would Bama fans criticize him? He's resurrected their program into a powerhouse with great recruiting and solid coaching.

Because there's a lot of runway between where we are and being a blue blood, and there's steps you have to take to get there.

I actually think that is one of the biggest issues our fan base has, we think money can solve all of our problems. We want to skip steps on the way to being elite. Just throw all the money into NIL and buy a championship roster, throw it on the field and achieve greatness.

That's not how greatness is achieved.

I don't always defend Buzz, there's plenty he could change and some he's absolutely going to have to change if we're going to reach an elite level. But that doesn't mean I can't also appreciate that he's gotten us to three straight years of "good."

You know how many years in our history we've been good three years in a row? One other stretch, from 2006-2011. What happened in that stretch? We lost one coach to Kentucky, and the other to Maryland.

So yeah, we all want to be better, but I also know how rare it is for us to even be at this level. If you can't even appreciate that a little bit then you're just setting yourself up to be constantly miserable.
What "level" do you think you're at, lil guy? 1,000 miles from a championship? You'd have a parade for making the sweet 16, because we all know we recruit so poorly with this coach.

It doesn't help when the coach's reaction to the players isn't something like: "that's some or a couple idiots, don't listen to them... See all those fans cheering you on every night? This is a great school to be a part of..etc etc"

Instead he is validating the outlier idiots with our players.. at least seemingly so...

Better coach in what way? Buzz has never made it to a final 4. Buzz has also never had a player charged with capital murder or covered for a star player who was also involved in said murder.

You have got to be joking. Holy f.

Wade Taylor is not an 8 year old in an oversized little league jersey swinging at balls way outside the strike zone! He's a paid professional adult! We pay him to perform at A&M, and when he doesn't do it up to our expectations, criticism is absolutely warranted!

You may have had a point before NIL, but I would feel pretty confident in concluding that there is not a single player on our basketball team who wouldn't abruptly leave A&M if offered a bigger "bag". There is not a single student athlete on our campus who just loves the Corps and our traditions enough to forego more money elsewhere. There is literally no loyalty shown to our school, but people like you demand unfettered loyalty to these paid for contractors in return? The absolute epitome of stupid.
If you believe everything you just wrote, the only stupider thing would be caring if they won or lost.

I think of Gonzaga in the early 2000's and Baylor in the mid-2000's. There's nothing wrong with being good for a while until you figure it out. We have a coach who's been to 11 NCAA tournaments, and currently presides over the 2nd best era in history...and produces players that make you proud to be an Aggie, and don't forget this - plays a style that rarely embarrasses us when we get put on national TV.

Some criticism should be expected just like praise should be expected . It comes with the territory. When the criticism crosses over to constant negativity is when it becomes potentially destructive. For the most part I don't think the criticism here goes over the top especially when compared to elsewhere. Having said that , the negativity doesn't really help anything unless you've got the pull to make it cross over into action by the AD.

Every fan base wants to win every game their respective favorite team plays excepting the people that want coaches to lose to create a groundswell for program leadership change. We've seen that in football here. For whatever reason it hasn't really changed the outcomes significantly but that's a whole different discussion .

I like Buzz and continue to support Buzz for the EXACT reasons you articulate here. Plus, I think he's smart enough and adaptable enough that he will make the changes if and when he has the players to do so. I think its easier to teach Buzz tactics than to develop scorers from scratch. So I hope Buzz will focus more on recruiting proven scorers and then try to teach them to play Buzz ball.

We simply can't consistently win games against really good competition if we go 7-8 minutes scoreless in the second half of games.
