Clutch your pearls all you want, but it's gotta be Beard.

Class of '23 here whose father graduated in the 90's and a grandfather who was here in the '50s. Between the three of us, we have seen ONE major championship, and my grandfather was four years old when that happened. Nothing but endless losses in the most unfortunate ways, led by coaches with zero winning mentality.

Seeing names pop up from smaller programs and mid-majors, and it makes me sick. We continually support the hiring of losers, and then cry and act surprised when these losers lose. I'm sick and tired of it. Perhaps we change that with someone who can actually make it past the second round -- Just a thought!

And don't come at me with the CWS nonsense from last year. That should be the standard for a school with as many resources as we have -- yet it isn't.

If this board is going to be delusional about hiring someone we have no chance at why is it Beard?

Why not decide we should bring Tony Bennett out of retirement or hire Scott Drew?

Do whatever it takes to lure Tom Izzo out of Lansing.

Unfortunately (and this will rub a lot of people the wrong way), a large chunk of A&M's fanbase embraces a loser culture. We care more about things like the yell leaders than we do about finding coaches who make stuff happen. Buzz is an above average coach, has given us a solid stretch of years, and I know it'll be tough to find a better replacement, but until we raise our expectations, we'll be stuck being the "competitive but nothing special" program. This sports program is the Dallas Cowboys of college sports - a lot more bark than bite. Call me a hater, sip, or whatever you want, but if we want to be taken seriously, we have to stop crying when people criticize our teams and need to more consistently demand higher standards. When this much money goes into our sports programs compared to most other universities, it is completely reasonable to expect better results.

Nobody on this board gives a **** about the yell leaders and compared to elite basketball programs we are not putting that much money into our basketball program.

If we were then our last four coaches wouldn't be from UTEP, Wichita State, Murray State and Virginia Tech.

Since we're on the topic of Chris Beard, let's bring up Ole Miss. Prior to Beard, Ole Miss had 3 tournament appearances in the past 21 years. That's not even close to good, but here they are getting a coach like Beard. The excuses have run dry. They're no endless well of basketball wealth, so if they can get a hire like that, so can we. I don't expect us to compete in recruiting with the likes of Duke and Kansas, but we can certainly do better. xoxo

Bill Self is probably more likely than Chris Beard.

Ole Miss didn't do any sort of genius scouting or analysis and uncover a hidden gem. They got him because nobody better wanted him.

And in 2 years, he's already made it farther in the tourney than Buzz has at A&M. Next.

What point are you even making? Nobody is debating that Beard is a great coach.

Let's have some pride folks. That POS shouldn't even be on our radar. Domestic abuse should be a show-stopper in our hiring process.

You can expect whatever you want to expect but I don't see the point of expecting things that are, by all observable evidence, extremely unlikely to happen.

Chris Beard is a top ten or so coach that Ole Miss was only able to hire because his alma mater fired him FOR BEATING UP A WOMAN in the middle of the season. Ole Miss doesn't care about that, fine, they got a top ten coach they'd have never been to get otherwise.

You got any more of those lying around? Proven top ten coaches that we can hire for under 15-20 million dollars? Because if not then whoever we're going to hire is going to be some level of crap shoot.

That's the reality,

Honestly the number of people who have absolutely no hesitation in wanting to hire a guy that our biggest rival fired for putting his hands on a woman is disgusting.

Beard is absolutely a phenomenal coach, but he's not the only one.

If you throw out the off court stuff AND assume his contract isn't a big hurdle (it is, but just for pretend let's say it's not) then that part isn't THAT unlikely. He's a Texas guy. He went to high school in The Woodlands. He's got people here. Never know if that means anything but plenty of people on here swore he was never leaving Tech for Texas even though he was an alum.

The police report noted bite marks on his fiance's arm. She withdrew her statement and said he was acting in self defense. I doubt that is the case as I cannot rationalize a scenario where a man would need to bite his spouse to defend himself.

It seems like best case: Beard has such poor judgment that he was engaged to a woman who he somehow needed to defend himself from by biting her and responding in other ways physically.

Worst case: Beard beat his fiance.

Neither option sounds like someone I'd want representing A&M or leading a group of young men.
