His Xavier tenure post joining Big East was 2013 (21-13, lost in first round), 2014 (23-14, lost in regional semi), 2015 (28-6, lost in 2nd round), 2016 (24-14, lost in region final), 2017 (29-6, lost in second round). His 5 years in the Big East at Xavier was better than Buzz's 6 years at A&M in the SEC. Seven NCAA tournament wins in those 5 years. Buzz won two NCAA tournament games in his 6 years at A&M.

he made the tourney all 5 years in the Big East including a Sweet 16, an Elite 8 and 2 round of 32s. At UL he made the tourney his first year and was a projected 2 seed in year 2 before it got cancelled.
That's a little better than 3 good seasons in 9.

He won at least 1 tourney game in this last 4 years, made the S16 twice and the Elite 8 once in those final years. In his final 4 years, they were a 6 seed, 2 seed, 11 seed and 1 seed.
Those final 4 years are pretty much the perfect example of "what's a good season?" You say he had 2 good seasons out of 5 (but lets call it 4 because that first year is tough, but he still won 21 games and made the Dance) ... so which 2 are the good seasons? The 2 where he made the S16/E8, or the 2 where he was a 2 seed and a 1 seed ... because he lost in the Round of 32 as a 2 seed and a 1 seed, made it to the S16 as a 6 seed and the E8 as an 11 seed.
He had 5 good seasons in the Big East at Xavier, not 2.

Mack made the dance 10 times out of 11 (I'm counting the year the tournament was canceled, because they were going to be a 2 seed) in his first 11 years as a head coach. His 12th year was the covid year (they only played 20 games) and his 13th year was the bizarre one at UL where he got fired.

In another thread Lutz wasn't good enough because of his conference records, but now Chris Mack who has had one season in his whole career with a losing conference record, and only two where he went .500 (both teams made the second weekend) also isn't good enough.
I like when he just posted Lutz's conference records from four years in a row without the context that that it was at three different schools.

When it comes to "recruiting" violations along the lines of what Mack did (using grad assistants for video recruiting or whatever) in the age of NIL i think its easier to shrug those away. I think Chris Mack would be a solid get. Like someone mentioned upthread "damaged goods" like Mack are an absolute value bet.
You could argue that Sean Miller was damaged goods bc of Arizona, Will Wade was obviously damaged goods and he landed at a program that thinks its on the Duke/NC level. Bruce Pearl was damaged goods for sure. Oh and that Beard guy seems a lil sketchy too. Glad we didnt push for that...winkwinknudgenudge

To be fair I think it's an incredibly low standard but it's the benchmark the casuals use as being acceptable. It's also the only benchmark as only tournament results matter.
Good side question, where are you taking a coaching candidate for lunch to convince them that this is the place for them?
