No way we can really judge this guy after year one when he is going to have a hard time just finding bodies to make up a roster given the timeframe he's dealing with. It is going to be very difficult to find high quality players in such a small window. Hopefully, he looks in Europe. Lots of good players over there.

I know, I know....this is TexAgs. There will be quite a few ready to fire him after year one. It won't be me. I think it would be fair to judge him after year two.

If we are rolling the dice on someone so young, and considering we have no roster right now, he needs at least four guaranteed seasons. Next season is gonna suck big time. Hopefully our bagmen, er NIL squad, can get to work buying some players.

He's getting 5 on his contract i believe . I think you can't even think about making fire decisions before mid yr 3. I suppose if the program is showing no sign of progress in thru yr 2 then that could be a consideration - like averaging 2-3 conference wins for 2 yrs .

After reading and listening more about this guy I don't expect that.

No kidding. They are judging him based on 1) I never heard of him , 2) he coached Samford in the SoCon which they probably hadn't ever heard of either, and 3) he has zero NCAA tourney wins . All bad criteria especially for a young coach.

I expect it to be a year or so of pain.
I likely will not be renewing season tickets (which I had every Buzz season), but will buy single game tickets here and there.
When I see there's a winning product on the floor, will jump back in with a multigame pack or season tickets eventually.
I want to see proof.

Good luck with that. I can already see all the posts about firing him and Trev after a poor start to the SEC season next year.

He definitely should get 3 years before we overreact but the tablet generation has no tolerance for that.

Hard to judge production when he literally starts from scratch. It's crazy he has no one to even introduce himself to player wise. With that said, I think we should be able to see something that's positive this year. I would expect us to going back to having an easier fall than last year just to get him acclimated.

This is true . Also took Bobby Knight 8 seasons to win his first tourney game (2nd yr at Indiana).

It's different now with the portal and NIL but you still can't expect miracles overnight .

So dumb...Mike K and Bob K didn't coach in an Nil error. I expect the team to be good next year and to compete...if he can't do that then why did we hire him, we aren't waiting for year three to show he's a good coach...it starts day one

Anybody who thought Barone or Watkins were going to take us anywhere after their first year can't recognize a basketball when they see one.

Sometimes a mistake is obvious. Better to cut your losses and move on even if it's "early" in the tryout.

Can't judge him this coming year bc buzz literally left him with nothing. Even year 2 is debatable bc of how buzz ****ed us. I'm willing to give Bucky a long leash bc I love everything I see and read about him. But hopefully he doesn't need a long leash and we are rolling in year 2.

He's coached two players in the nba I think. And every one of his past players seem to vouch for him (high school and college)

You expect him to compete in the best league in the country with ONLY transfers from other schools? If he does that I'll be even more excited than I already am. It's one thing to add some portal transfers to an already made roster. He has no roster whatsoever. Next year is not going to be goood. And it would've been terrible with buzz.

I'm thinking end of year 3 at the earliest maybe 4

Be one thing if he had something to work with

He has literally zero players and zero recruits

Honestly need big money to step in right away to see any success earlier than 3 years

Does anyone know what kind of contract he will be getting money-wise?

I would assume he is being paid a couple million less than Buzz.

Is it as simple as that frees up that much more money for NIL?

That could go a long way towards acquiring a roster.

I was at a coaching clinic held by Jaime Morrison our VB coach. He said it took a solid 2 years to clean house and start changing the culture of the program here. I'd assume at least as much with basketball so I'd say after third year but there should be signs. There's so much more than just buying the right guy.

PS we have an elite VB program that will be electric this year. I hope we are able to hold on the Jaime for a long time!

I'm glad Bucky doesn't think this way he is planning next year. We aren't fielding a football team.
We will win next year previous coaches bk bw used the excuses about results on yr one.
Let's see what he has to say today.

Do we just hire coaches with first initial B now.

Exactly we've been programmed by ****ty coaches to believe you can't win in yr one. There is nothing left from Buzz and we will be just fine next year. Pretty sure there were a few SEC teams that added over 10 players this year and did just fine.
This guy is going to change that mindset we have around here.
