Any news on the two commitments and McDermott?

Should've written THREE commitments.

Looks like the redshirted, bench warming class of 2024 - at least Mills and Turkson, who are both from the Northeast USA anyway, will probably be doing what Payne and Solo did - and will be following Buzz to Maryland.

However, the third member of that class, Chris McDermott, who was actually the only freshman that played in multiple games (*and showed good defensive and rebounding skills in limited minutes) is from Houston - as a high school senior awarded the Guy Lewis Award for Outstanding High School Basketball Player in Greater Houston Area (thought appropriate to mention in light of Houston Cougars Men's Basketball success this year) - he might want to stay close to home.

Seems like McDermott should be one of Bucky's FIRST calls/visits to try to keep him in Aggieland.

Also wondering if anyone has any updates on NEXT YEAR'S incoming Fish Class - Jasir Rencher, from Northern California, a 6'5" shooting guard/small forward who reportedly had a great senior season to finish around #80 in recruiting rankings, 6'2" point guard Jeremiah Green, from Chandler, AZ, and 6'2" shooting guard Aaron Glass, from Rancho Cucamonga, CA.

All three kids are from the Western USA (thus, perhaps less likely to bolt for Maryland) and are still listed as committed to Texas A&M. However, my understanding is that they are NOW allowed to look around in the event of a coaching change - right?

Again, in addition to hitting the transfer portal hard, would be great if Bucky could find a way to contact, visit, and ultimately keep some or all of these kids IF THEY MATCH the type of players that he believes would fit into his system of "Buckyball".

Green is actually from Dallas but not sure anyone of these guys fit what Bucky's system needs.

I want nothing to do with Buzz. Unless it is an absolute can't miss 5* recruit I don't care if they follow him. Buzz was okay, but he wanted out and he was paid way more than what he put forth. Buzz will fail at Maryland and we should be thankful they took him.

Buzz won't fail at Maryland. History has shown that he will likely bring them a level of success but never quite get over the hump.

Looking forward to something different. It is unlikely that the TYPE of players Buzz was interested in are the same that would fit well in Bucky's system.

Yeah anyone thinking Maryland won't be good is delusional. And they'll probably be better faster than we were with the new rules and no Covid year.

Yep

Buzz will have them In the tourney, but probably not get them last the second round

Buzz will be alright - especially if he can find a wing like he's had at previous stops who can slash. It was Solo's one piece he was missing that would've changed our trajectory.

Payne we could have used this next year. I'm not sure Solos skill set would have ben used much. The guys on the bench were probably "Buzz" type of players and might not have been needed or wanted by the new coach. So I think we are really only going to lose one player that would have been a big help next year.

Either the redshirt freshmen following Buzz aren't that good or Buzz is a total idiot for not playing them over Hef and Jace.

I think they are going to be good, but who knows. Buzz doesn't like playing freshman. Convinces them they need to redshirt and get stronger, learn the system and get acclimated to college. And these kids buy in. He planned all along to redshirt the 3 freshmen who set out.

Almost two opposite approaches. Let Buzz go riding away into the sunset with all his recruits. Entire soup to nuts player rebuild and have zero expectations for 2025-26. Making the tournament itself would be the silver lining. Bucky needs ONE FULL year recruiting cycle...just like Elko before the fan base should have ANY type of expectations for winning.

But yet.....most demand it at Game 1.
halfastros81
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Absolutely true. Elko had a short recruiting cycle in yr 1 and so does Bucky. Need at a minimum 2 to even begin to evaluate. No doubt NIL and the portal shorten the length of time needed to change program trajectories by perhaps a yr or 2. Basketball is generally easier than football however Buzz did leave things pretty bare via both transfers that went with him and 8 who played out all their eligibility . 1 returning player is about as bare a cupboard as I can remember for an incoming basketball coach .

Making the tourney next yr is a pretty tall order but I wouldn't rule it out.

Ppl making excuses for Bucky before a single game has been played just shows how sorry the Aggie bball prog has become.

There are no excuses in the portal era. You can and are expected to win in year 1

Who's making excuses? It's a fact that this hire was late in coaching change cycle.

It was also late in the portal cycle with the vast majority of portal kids already having negotiated and signed NIL and letters of intent. It's not like you can just call those kids up and tell them to go break two contracts because we want them (not to mention we'd have to overpay to do that, in your hypothetical world).

Some of you seem to want to set aside reality just so you can *****. What a sad life that must be.

Give the man some time.

I guess we should define good vs expectations. Getting to first round and no more might be good. I don't think that is good based on expectations. He was paid to do more than that here and never could. To me that's not good. I don't see him doing better than that at Maryland. He will likely make the tourney but I don't see him making a deep run. And I hope he fails. I don't think we have anything to tank him for. He's not leaving us in a better spot than when he took over. His predecessor did more.
