When we say Bucky is the exact opposite of Buzz he goes all the way. This kid is the exact opposite of Solo. Very skilled. Not sure he can dunk with two hands but who cares?
this guy shoots a better percentage from 3 than Solo did from 3 ft this year. I didn't realize Solo was that bad offensively this season until I saw his transfer highlights w his numbers. 35% FG and 18% 3pt for the season.
He looks good. I would love to have solo back though. His athleticism and intensity would fit well in Bucky ball.

We had several players which were good people but were not that good of basketball players. Solo had his pros and cons but at the end of the day we didn't have any consistent 3 point shooters.
Solo would have been a nice player to keep in this system imo just for his defense . Maybe the new staff could have developed him more offensively. That was a major failing by Buzz' staff. A guy that is that athletic should have been developed more. Oh well.
I hope McDermott stays . I wish now he hadn't played at all this yr just to preserve a yr of eligibility . What he showed in very little opportunity looked good to me and if you were going to burn his redshirt let him get more time in games that were not competitive . Looks athletic enough to fit Buckyball.

Loved the Solo. He was my favorite after Andi. Always told me kids that I believe Solo had the highest upside and would ultimately be far more successful than Wade. Mad skills....just raw as raw gets.
But we need less raw with instant production!
Oh Lord, I am going to be so happy watching games with a team of shooters! Been SO SO SO long since we have had that.

I'd love to see him here it would be so refreshing to have a big that could stretch the floor and shoot, I'm kinda worried about whether he'll be able to guard and rebound against much more athletic SEC bigs if he comes here though
He will be able to guard and rebound. He was getting boards against Arizona and Michigan State.
As I understand it if someone plays at all in hoops their redshirt is burned barring medical reasons for their season ending early.

He had 13 pts vs Arizona this year and 19 pts and 9 boards vs Michigan State so that is encouraging. He also had 27 pts vs George Mason in the NIT.

He's a transfer I don't know if he didn't play his freshman year at UIC or if he didn't play his first year at Samford. Either way he has one more year left.
I guess the bar is much lower than I originally expected. Its tough to get hyped about a guy averaging 13 min/game for a low tier school like Samford. It's like everyone here thinks we're going to build this bad news bears team and actually compete. This guy will get absolutely destroyed and locked down by the other SEC teams. Averaging what these guys average against inferior opponents I don't want any of them.
^He averaged 13.5+ points per game, not minutes per game. Big difference.
And even if accepting that these guys will have a tough time at this level (I don't necessarily buy that)- having a core group of 3-4 come over will be great in helping Bucky implement his system. That still gives what 7 or 8 or 9? more roster spots to NIL guys in? That's a good mix.

He averaged 19.9 minutes and 14.0 points while shooting 51% FG and 80% FT.

*checks transfer portal rankings and sees Brownell is ranked as a top 100 player in the portal this year(out of 2000 D1 players in there right now).
Pharrel Payne was ranked #102 last year.
Brownell reminds me of another player at Alabama, Grant Nelson, who transfered from N Dakota. Both have good offensive instincts around the basket and both can pop the three, as well as, rebound.
Better shooter, not as explosive, but has a knack for finishing around the rim

Bingo! You must have a team of both types of players to win at a high level. High-skill and elite athleticism are both important. I was wishing Buzz would recruit a big like this guy since day one. A 4 who can hit 3s consistently helps your offense so much!Method Man said:

Solo could have benefited from staying and learning to set screens and operate within an actual offense.
