Reading in between the lines of postgame presser, sounds like Pop didn't play for what I would broadly describe as culture issues. He may be the Moose Muhammad of our basketball team. I know people are gonna gripe about it but long term culture preservation is the most important thing, even if it costs us games short term.
Give me the guy who shoots for excellence and fails over the guy who shoots for mediocrity and succeeds.

He also benched Federiko for not playing the right way.

Agree that those are good signs. You can't let anyone be bigger than the team. You don't have to set the sliders *quite* so far as Buzz had them but this is one thing he understands better than anyone, you can't build a program on a weak culture.

Bucky has said he will bench guys who aren't doing what he wants them to do and he said if they're not great cheerleaders on the bench with the right attitude then they will be gone.

We will see how Pop responds.

Watching the team and culture develop is a big part of why this season is so interesting to watch imo. My sense is we chose well for HC but it may take several years to bear fruit until the roster is dominated with his kind of guys .

Buzz was kind of the same in that respect but stylistically almost the exact opposite . It's interesting how Bucky and Buzz are both big on analytics but arrive at a system that are diametrically opposite

Yeah, Buzz basically ran off TJ Starks after Starks got into a little trouble.

I'm not surprised after his antics a couple of weeks ago in a game where he was clearly frustrated. But I'm encouraged that the coaches are not putting up with this.

It definitely felt like he was bringing some serious negative energy. Its one thing to have a high bar and wanting to hold those around you to a similar standard, but it didn't seem like he was making any positive connection with his teammates. Looked like they were just annoyed by him. Hope for everyone's sake he can adjust and be productive. Bucky will have to show his mettle here I think.

He literally didn't play basketball for a year following hip surgery, he was never likely to just start the year out on fire or anything.

Hopefully he figures it out there. There's still something in there, if he was absolutely cooked or a huge character problem you'd think Houston would have stayed away.
