Went down to the game Saturday and had a great time. Crowd was small, but really involved in the second half. Students still out for the break. I'm sure Bucky Ball will pack the students in. It's a lot of fun.

For those of you at the game, what do you think of the DJ ?

Im old. I would like to be able to hear myself think or visit with our "neighbors ", but it loud the entire time.

Love it during game action.

He needs to dial it down and quit trying to be the center of attention or the star of show! He's over the top. Constantly screaming in the microphone. He also has his finger on the volume knob so he can crank it up to max volume the instant the band stops playing, the PA announcer stops to take a breath, timeout is called, etc. He makes it impossible to carry on a conversation.

I think he's fine. Maybe I'm just used to it.

I like him as a DJ for music.

I'm not really a fan of the organized segments. I also miss the fry toss.

Agree. It seems to be getting worse each year. I am all for him creating a great atmosphere, but needs to realize this is not about him. We want students at the games participating, but he drowns them out. Our traditions should come before his performance. I am always excited when I show up and see he is out and his replacement is on the board. It is great to hear the student yells, etc.

The one thing we continue to do that I just absolutely hate, and I don't know how much of this the DJ is actually in charge of versus other in-game ops people or whatever, but we need to have two variations of our under-4 media timeout in the second half plan.

Plan A) We're going to come out of the timeout on defense: This is when you use the one we had Saturday. Hype video, lights, mo bamba, whatever song. Get the crowd on their feet to close to the game and get them hyped.

Plan B) We're coming out on offense or shooting free throws: Hype video, lights, but then instead of telling everyone to get loud or whatever just tell people to stand up, ""get up, stretch out, and after this next bucket goes in everyone lose their minds" or something similar.

It's weird to have this whole hype video presentation, play a hype song, etc and then we come out of the media timeout and shoot free throws.

Otherwise it's mostly fine. The games are awful but have been for like 20 years now. It would be better if literally every media timeout was just a halfcourt shot.

We need more funny stuff like playing the jeopardy theme song during reviews.

He's the best thing to happen to Reed Arena / Kyle Field in terms of fan engagement. The only time I turned to my wife on Saturday and had a negative comment was when the volume knob got turned up on Mo Bamba.

Generally speaking, he is there to keep the students engaged and make the experience better for them and anything that fills up the student section gets two thumbs up from me.

This is a dumb idea but one thing that might be good, especially during these first few conference games that people are just starting to tune in for, is some kind of trivia about the rules changes for this year. Even if you just tell the person the answer ahead of time.

I bet less than 1% of our fans know that out-of-bounds calls are no longer reviewable by the officials this year.

He was also trying to make up for the lack of students on Saturday which made even louder and more intrusive than it normally is.

We went to TCU / Baylor on Saturday - their DJ also dropped Mo Bamba at a key break. Zero reaction, because no students there.

I'm an old and I don't mind it. Keeps things moving in normal lull periods.

I don't care if the students come or not , that's their choice but the Ath Department should get people in those seats .

why? the players seem to like it. its about 3 minutes during halftime. Its not like it detracts from anything else going on.

It's like the one thing we have that's sponsored that people actually watch. It has to stay!

By the way I've noticed Breakaway is actually sponsoring Aggie basketball this year. Is Breakaway some kind of money laundering scheme now?

I think they intentionally pick the least athletic dudes to shoot the half court shot.

Also, did a Muslim dude with the year supply of Slovacek sausage? LOL

Guys came reasonably close to hitting the HC shot the past 2 games . Especially Prairie View.

what happened to the game where a student had to putt a golf ball length of the court into cup or something to win a Arbys gift card. I guess they realized the fry toss was too hard.

Seems to me we find the hardest ways to give away free stuff, esp to students.

but at least they got the tee shirt gatlin gun working finally

The putt one is def one that needs to come back. Make it like a "pick your prize" deal. Putt from the FT line you get something basic, other end of the court you win the big prize, which for us is like a burrito or something but still.
BQ_90

but the one they had was impossible, first off the court isn't level so the golf ball was bouncing by the time it hit half court.

need to go back to the one where you made like $25 for layup, then $50 for free throw, then $100 for 3 pointer, then big money for half court, make it like 5k or something. 1k is chump change since the odds are so low anyone will make it

From my angle (north side)it looked pretty good but couldn't really tell left to right until it hit the backboard. Didn't notice the yell leader .

I personally liked the DJ but I do agree he was kinda distracting at times. About halfway thru the second half the guy sitting behind us said, "That DJ really needs to take a break!" Little bit of that guy goes a long way.

I'd also like to see him maybe mix in some Rock n Roll: Enter Sandman, Back n Black, etc. seems like it was all Rap and Hip Hop. We say it's for the crowd but we sat in section 105 and might have been the youngest fans there.

The use of the media timeouts was a bit strange. I think in one series there was a team timeout followed by a media timeout followed by another team timeout. Like 7 minutes worth.

Also, the refs decided to review a non-goal tending call on A&M ( it wasn't even close) and then decided to go ahead and do the next media timeout.

Nothing you can do about these. Gotta get paid!

This one was by rule since they stopped the platy for a review at 4:06 in the first half, they went ahead and took the under four media timeout rather than have a lengthy review and then immediately have another under four media timeout. That one was intentional and a good call by the officials.

The other one is something I don't really understand. At 15:22 Dominguez hit that transition 3 to make it a 7 point game and LSU called a timeout. Okay so LSU calls a 30 second timeout, but it extends to a full timeout for the under 16 media, I understand that. But then, like you said, the ball got put back in play and then there was a dead ball at 14:52 which then triggered a second media timeout just 30 seconds later.

Did the SEC add a floating media timeout to the second half for ad revenue or something?

Don't know. It was kinda wonky. But the coaches didn't complain. I'll ask around.
