Game Preview
Keep pressing, keep attacking, eventually they'll break. If you look away from your tv for a second you might miss an 8-0 Aggie run. You might miss back to back 3's in a matter of ten seconds. The scoreboard might have its own narrative, but with Bucky Ball, we are never out.
Down 17, the Aggies went on a huge 31-6 run to flip the script at Auburn last time out. If you doubted them once, you most certainly doubted them when Auburn's Keyshawn Hall drilled a half court heave at the buzzer… Not so fast my friend! Some say the ball don't lie, I say the clock don't lie. The shot was waved off, Aggies jumped with joy, we the fans could not believe something good happened to us, all meanwhile Steve Pearl was freaking out, their fans were throwing trash at us, and the Aggies were dancing in the locker room. 2-0
Now it's time to respond back from an emotional game, time to carry the momentum back home in front of the 12th Man. This afternoon the Aggies will host Oklahoma at 2:30pm. Oklahoma looked impressive in its first conference game with a 16 point win over Ole Miss before they traveled to Starkville and lost by 19 to Mississippi State. They've had some great results in non conference, but they haven't been consistent. They did pick up losses to Gonzaga, Nebraska, and Arizona State. However, they did pick up a win against Oklahoma State, which we lost too.
Their offensive output has been really inconsistent. They take a lot of 3 pointers, so I think rebounding will be huge in this game. We can't let their guards get hot. Nigel Pack and Xzayvier Brown lead them in minutes and in scoring with both over 15 ppg. they do have depth, but their rotation has naturally tightened up with only about 7 playing meaningful minutes throughout their 2 conference games. Pack has shot 45% from three and he's been taking about 3 a game. He is undersized but extremely quick. We'll need to keep our pace and play aggressively up top on defense.
Our defense has looked better recently. We're understanding our roles and switching a lot better. There also seems to be a much higher emphasis on hustling and physicality that's evident. Our team seems to be bought into the mantra of team defense and playing for each other. If we can be successful rebounding and contest a lot of their shots we can frustrate them and make it a long game for them.
On the flip side, it's going to be nice watching this offense in Reed Arena. After the Auburn game, the excitement has grown and people are starting to get behind this team. I can't wait to see how Reed reacts to a 3 point barrage, or a transition steal and bucket. We're a high energy fast paced team, having a crowd roaring behind you will be extremely complementary.
Let's see how Oklahoma reacts to an Aggie run. We deflated Auburn's crowd with a huge run (despite letting them back into the game). With our offense Reed can be a scary place to play. I want to see us go fast and wear them down. Eventually they'll break and that's what Bucky Ball is all about. These are the games we have to win. We're favored, we're at home. We took care of business game 1, we went and stole a huge win game 2. This is one we need to take care of. Moving to 3-0 will be enormous for this team and any post season hopes.
Everyone get to Reed. Be loud and let's make a difference. I want to see 100 on the scoreboard. This team needs you. Let's go BTHO ou!!!!
