Read in Rupp Rafters (UK board)

The last 14 seconds of the Georgia South Carolina game today took 27 minutes… Someone in the Kentucky board said I thought Buzz had left the SEC

I was reading some of Maryland's bball boards last night and the general consensus is they are giving him a mulligan this year because he needs to get his guys in the program and he took the job too late to get any difference makers from the portal.

One guy pointed out that A&M hired their head coach after Buzz and we are 12-3. But pretty much everyone ignored him. They are all ingesting the copium in large amounts at this point.

They all agree their offense is terrible to watch but the team tries hard. They are terrible at shooting 3's and have no offensive identity.

Pretty much everything we saw here except the shine may be off of Buzz for good since he hasn't made the second round in the tournament in over ten years.

On a side note I met a guy who worked in the athletic department under Buzz and he said he can finally fully root for our basketball team because Buzz is a terrible person. His schtick about respect and self improvement is all smoke and mirrors. That he is a very weird dude and treats most people like crap.

So glad we have Bucky as our head coach now!

They can't, they signed him to a fully guaranteed six year contract. They hired him without an AD and he was the biggest name and thought to be the safest hire at the time.

I always liked buzz for the most part when he was here... probably bc I liked our teams & their toughness

Watching a Maryland presser though after watching a Bucky team for 15 games makes me think I may hate buzz... lol

A lot of their fans are likely unaware that not having enough of "his guys" is also entirely his own fault. He built a roster at A&M almost entirely with seniors and really neglected recruiting his last 2-3 seasons. He could've brought a lot more young talent over if he gave a crap about recruiting. I mean if he stayed at A&M for 1 more year his team would be even worse than Maryland is.

100% agree. Looking back, it seems he had his exit plan in place 2 or so years ago. That he was going to use his senior laden team to make a deep run in the tournament and then cash that in for a bigger paycheck at another school.

He kept us respectable for the second half of his tenure here and if he didn't have his typical collapse at the end of last season we might have made the second round.

But I'm really glad everything worked out the way it did and Bucky is here. His style reminds me of when Pitino was at Kentucky and it is really exciting what he has done in such a short amount of time.

This was such a foreseeable bad hire by Maryland that likely doesn't happen if they have an AD. A&M was almost certainly going to fire him after this season if he didn't leave. Now he's on track to have the worst season in his career. His 6 year and leave shtick is going to run out

What Bucky has done with a completely new roster is pretty amazing. He was very aggressive in the transfer portal and has assembled a nice group of players who are developing good chemistry.

I did not like buzz, but felt like he was as good as the program could get. But we upgraded big time getting Bucky. I hope the environment can improve and we build something special with Bucky.

From a fans perspective, Bucky ball is so much more entertaining. Tip of the hat to Trev for bringing in a fan friendly coach and brand of basketball. I really think our fans can look forward to great basketball for the first time since 2007, and I mean that with respect to the coaches and players who played since then.

...the shuffling of papers at the beginning of the press conference like he is this genius mastermind putting everything together right there....

Then the patronizing fake a** quotes like "Solo is much more intelligent than I am." Turned it off after that (2:00 minutes in).

Adios, clown.

I use to like Buzz too until I realized his commitment to our school never existing. He was a social rekluse apparently and didnt really support our Athletic department as a whole. Not sure I ever once saw a shot of Buzz at volleyball games, baseball games or even football games for Christ Sake. Unlike Elko, Morrison, etc.

He did us the biggest favor in all of college sports by leaving. Simply an average coach who will never achieve greatness. And a guy....very focused on himself. No doubt...Maryland is gonna fire him before his contract is up.

What?!! You weren't brainwashed into thinking that offensive rebounding is an ideal primary offensive strategy for success?

not only that, but he was too lazy to max out last year's team via the portal... Cost us big time in the tourney .. Bucky shows what you can get with some work ethic recruiting the portal with a&m's resources.

This was really the best situation to start anew with nothing left over apologies to McDermott. He put together this team after the main portal season. This is their 16th game of playing together, they are just now getting used to each other. It's really fun to watch and Bucky is just the opposite of Buzz he really seems to care about being here and coaching here. I thought I remember him saying when the basketball team was at a football game saying that if you work hard and perform they will support you the same.

Besides being loyal, what did Solo think playing another year under Buzz was/is going to do for his basketball future. You spent 3 years under a staff and didn't improve really any part of your game, you lack any offensive fundamentals, you still foul people like crazy. What would another year in the same exact system for a team that's rebuilding do you. Not saying he should've stayed, but why not go play for a contender or someone that's willing to help you improve offensively.

Probably a combination of:

1) buzz got him competitive money
2)related to #1-- he's wasn't that hot of commodity.. he can't shoot.. that's a big problem in modern basketball
3) we all have to admit--- players do like playing for buzz. He's a good preacher. So made it easier for him to follow.

Had Solo stayed we'd be better this year. In hindsight he'd have been better off too but hindsight is 20/20. Bucky and staff would have prepped him better for whatever level of basketball may be in his future. At the end of the day Buzz did us a favor in leaving. That's hindsight too because I didn't think so at the time.

Maryland really has no choice but to just write this season off as transition damage . If Buzz can't turn it around to some degree next year he may not get a 3rd season but he's also had some pretty bad luck on the injury front. He might do it and he might not.

Buzz last year here has a senior laden team and wins one tournament game.

Jaime this year in volleyball has senior laden team and wins the whole darn thing.

Buzz only winning one tournament game last season was extremely telling with his limitations as a coach.

In Buzz's case all the negative discussion can't even push me to suggest hiring him and firing him again…but I'll note I didn't think he was a good hire before we hired him. I did my best to try to understand his approach. And there were moments of enjoyment spread among the meh,

If we are complaining…
The most annoying thing about Buzz (not having to do with style of play basketball/philosophy) is he just made up stories for no reason. And then people believed these dumb stories. Like he would say he didn't watch recruits play, but he knew from talking to them and their parents that he wanted the kid. And people believed these dumb stories like that. Whereas Solo talked several times that he could not believe how many of his HS games Buzz attended and it was much more than any other coach.

I also felt he tried to keep "Team Bus 1" in a bubble. Part of all those team activities was sure personal grown, but I think a lot of it was about making sure a lot of their time was spent with him so they were loyal to him over Texas A&M so if he did leave one day. That's not going to work on a guy like Henry Coleman who people gravitate to regardless of sport. But a guy like Solo who spent 3 years at A&M looked around when Buzz was leaving and said I don't have any connection to this university if he is gone, my connection is to Buzz. I imagine the same was for Mills and Turkson.

That didn't really even bother me. It's the tourney and **** happens. It was the month leading up to the tournament where he was already setting up the narrative in case they had an early exit. This is when I started to waiver on him and it had nothing to do with on the court play but his attitude
