i think if we can stay healthy we have a very dangerous team that is only getting better. assuming we play well down the stretch and make the tournament i wouldnt want us as my draw. if we are on, we can shoot with anyone in the country.

I know I'm one of the more optimistic people on here anyway, but after the way we played against Tennessee I want to see how we do against UGa/Alabama/Florida/Vandy before I just go ahead and write those off for sure.

Gun to my head are we as good as those teams? Probably not...

But maybe?

Really only Florida for me. I'd be shocked if we win that game. The others I think are tossups at this point.

FWIW, Pugliese thinks (and I tend to agree) that someone will figure out the defense and we'll get "blown out" (15 or so) one night. OSU had its way with our D when it was young. I can see something like that happening against UF too. Still loving this season - that **** is just basketball.

I think it's less about "figuring it out" and more just being good offensively and having athletes we can't counter or something. That's why Alabama worries me about as much as Florida does. It's not like our defensive scheme is all that complicated, it's just whether you have the athletes to beat it.

There will probably be a game where someone has that AND we have a bad shooting night but that's not the end of the world. Good teams get blown out sometimes by other good teams.

This is where I've tried to calm down in my old age lol. I used to jump all over posts like these, but I can actually see it now. Someone isn't really super into college basketball, but college football ended Monday, the NFL is winding down, and then they hear we beat Texas and we're 5-1 and want to know are we really that good or what's the deal? I've tried to give people the benefit of the doubt.

remember most of our fans are football fans and idiot football fans at that.

So then they bring that knowledge to basketball and apply all their football knowledge to basketball

It's why I keep screaming "watch out for the screen play" at the TV.

even though Bucky says he's a good 3 pt shooter, i'll scream for Agee to check down on those 3 pointers he shoots

The only time I want him taking a three is if we're up 30 points.

Florida is the only one where I really feel like we don't have a shot and that all centers around rebounding. Their guards are very inconsistent, but even if they're missing shots against us I fear they will just kill us on second chance points.

As far as seeing us get blown out in a game here or there, I think that comes down to does someone get Agee in early foul trouble. If he isn't on the floor and someone has the right plan against us, it could get ugly. Otherwise, I think on any given night we have pretty well proven we can hang with anyone in the league. Sure you could get Bama/Vandy on a night they just don't miss, but that could happen to anyone and we are a threat to do that now too. Very interested to see us against Georgia here soon as I haven't been totally sure what to make of them yet.

If Florida was on the road I'd say no shot, I've said all season they're probably our worst case scenario opponent, but I'm not gonna go that far on our own court.

I can't wait for the day he makes one and Reed Arena goes bonkers! I bet he makes 3 or 4 in the same game

Not to be pessimistic, but how much of our success is due to our competition thus far? With a win on Saturday, we would have beaten the 5 worst teams in the SEC. We still haven't played a team that is in the top half of the current SEC standings.
We beat Auburn on the road. Auburn is 3-3 now and would be 4-2 and tied for 2nd place in the SEC if they didn't blow a 15-point lead to us.

Our ceiling does depend on how many easy 2's we miss and 3's we make. Hopefully never out-rebounded like the Tenn game again which cost us that game.

Look at it this way, we were picked to be the fourth worst team, so the fact that we beat the "five worst teams" already means we're ahead of where most people thought we'd be.

How will it translate against the best teams? Who knows? But those teams aren't invincible. Alabama and Vandy lost to Texas, Arkansas got wiped off the floor by Auburn, Georgia lost to Ole Miss who might be the second worst team in the league, Florida lost to Mizzou who lost to LSU AND Ole Miss.

The teams that are probably better than us have already lost to teams worse than us.

Yeah, we're not going to go 17-1 in the SEC or anything. Everyone knows some losses are coming. We might even get blasted once or twice. It happens.

But the truth is that right now, by every metrics system out there, we're projected to win enough games to make the NCAA Tournament, and even if we get in as the very last team, that would be an absolutely incredible accomplishment for Bucky's first season.

This is the kicker. The SEC is wide open. We can beat any team or lose to any team.

Teams 3,4,5 and 6 have 2 losses already and team 7+ have 3 out of 7 losses. We can beat them all!

Bobinator and others are worried about Florida, but I wouldn't be suprised if we beat them. Ecstatic, but not suprised.

IDK man. We run enough versions of our press and at random times. I tend to disagree. I think it's a bunch more complicated than it looks because of that variety. I think it's why we struggled at the beginning of the year. remember how OSU blew through it? We haven't seen that since and I think it's more that we've gotten much much better running it.

Well the press for sure, I meant more in the half court. Maybe we turn them over 20 times, that would definitely help, lol.
