Do any of the basketball gurus on here have any insight on the roles that the assistant coaches play and how their responsibilities get divvied up. Does one coach bigs, one guards, offense, defense? It seems like during the games it is always one or two of the same assistants in Bucky's ears. And during the games it seems like Bucky is in full command of what he wants to do immediately, without much input from others, which I kind of like.

I've actually wondered this too, would be an interesting question for Luke or someone to ask Bucky during the bye date next week.

I'd be interested in hearing how that even comes together over the offseason. Bucky obviously knows Cole, but he's never worked with Keller or Haith. Does he like hand them a binder of plays and drills and is like "memorize this, we'll see you next week" or something?

I can't even imagine how chaotic those first couple of months were. Trying to put together a roster of players, most of which you have absolutely no relationship with, trying to figure out staff responsibilities with some guys you've never worked with, etc.

Depends on whether Texags like the HC or not. Under Kennedy, assistants did everything from x's and o's to full recruiting during the good years, but when we lost it was all in the HC. They were a fickle group during those years Haha.

This would be some great Andrew Monaco questions for the coach's hour.

I like the coach's hour, but some less "canned" questions would be nice for us die-hard fans

Not sure how Bucky does things, but as a former coach myself I've been on many staffs that all pretty much have a similar structure in that it is a collaborative effort with countless hours of meetings where all coaches get input and bring their perspectives to the table but at the end of the day the head coach has final say on how things operate and then he delegates responsibility as he sees fit based on the unique experience, qualifications and personalities of each assistant on staff. Gameday and practice responsibilities are clearly delineated during meetings in off season and if something goes down in season where the head coach sees a change that's needed, it's addressed prior to the next game in more meetings.

I think most people know that's generally how it works, I think the question is more specific to this team. Like about what Bucky thinks the strengths of these particular coaches are, etc.

revisionist history- bk was always clueless on x and O's.. recruiting- we got to offer the bag to bring in the johnson class. Arguably best class in program history.

I think BK could coach defense fairly well

Another impressive thing about Bucky was he wasnt scared to bring in multiple coaches with strong resumes. He's confident in himself and does not need to hire yes men (buzz).

turge and bcg were better on that end.. but that's not totally fair bc that's the strength of those guys.

Bk was more of a buzz type guy on defense. Without demanding the intensity that buzz did (even with his flawed system)..

It was just a different style with that pack line defense. But when we had decent players we were really good at it.

Mitch Cole almost certainly has more of an offense role and Kyle Keller defense.
