Trap trap trap trap trap! Watch where you're going or you might just be trapped by two Aggies in Bucky's full court defense. Unfortunately for the other team, that pressure never ends. Unfortunately for South Carolina, they're next on the schedule to face the red hot Texas A&M Aggies who are sitting at 5-1 in conference play. With a time change, the game will kick off at 12 noon on espn plus due to the incoming cold front.
What's not cold is Bucky Ball. The Aggies are tied atop the SEC standings and coming off a 20 point win over Mississippi State where they were a near perfect 23-24 from the free throw line and only committed 3 turnovers. They held the conference's leading scorer to 12 points in Josh Hubbard. The Aggie defense stifled Miss State's guard heavy offense, went on a huge run to end the half and it was over from there.
Now the Aggies look to improve to 6-1, an unexpected yet fascinating start to conference play. They go in 8.5 point favorites vs a South Carolina team that has struggled to win in conference play. It won't be easy however. South Carolina has a stingy defense and some strong shooters. They are led by 6th year #5 Meechie Johnson who averages 15.1 ppg and over 4 assists. They have some height along the perimeter with 6'9 and 6'7 guards Mile Sharavjamts and Myles Stute. Both are strong shooters. They got out to an 11-0 start last time out all behind the shooting of forward 6'8 Elijah Strong, so they'll use him to stretch the floor. They do have two 7 footers but they hardly play, so they'll be rolling out a small ball lineup. They aren't great rebounding and I think we can put physical them. They move the ball well and love to drive and kick out. They have been without one of their top players in guard Eli Ellis for a couple games and he will be out again.
For us, we've seen automatic double doubles from Rashaun Agee as he has set the tone and led us on this run. It's almost a given to expect him to have a great game. Against a smaller team I'm sure he'll feast. Rylan Griffen is becoming to settle into his shot and deliver from deep. South Carolina is the leagues best in opponent 3 point percentage so it'll be interesting to see how he do from there. We've shown we are capable of winning without lighting it up from three. We've been improving at getting to the line and we've been attacking the basket more.
Like every game, I'm excited to see who steps up. We have so much depth, it's always fun to see who's gonna get some buckets each game. Could it be Dominguez, Pop, Griffen, or Lane from three. Could it be Dibba, Agee or Hill driving to the hoop. Could it be one of our backup big men hitting a couple shots in the paint. Our depth is amazing. Not everyone needs to be on each night and that's what makes us a problem to others.
I want to see our defense continue to keep improving and impose their will. Our press is wearing teams down each game. South Carolina has little depth and has a short rotation. I want to see us pressure them up top and we'll need to harass their guards. "Mother In Law"defense is what Bucky likes to call it. SEC Network called it similar to 40 Minutes of Hell. I love how much our half court defense has improved. Our guards have been excellent at closing at shots and disrupting lanes. Can't wait to see how we affect South Carolina's offense.
As the winter storm approaches, it will be interesting to see the turnout in Reed. You can feel the excitement around this team and there's nothing more special than the 12th Man at its full strength. This team and this coach deserve it. Enjoy the ride, cheer them on, and let's continue to shock the world. Bucky Ball is here and it's here to stay. Like Bucky says, we're a part of it. Stay safe my friends first and foremost and secondly let's BTHO South Carolina!!!!
