I'm at like dangerous hype levels for this dude right now.
I'm also impressed with how much more comfortable he is talking to the media and Monaco compared to how he was at the beginning of the season. He is genuinely a funny dude and it's easy to see why the players like playing for him.
It's warranted imo. Looks like a once every decade or two type talent to me.

I don't mean to derail this thread with this, but just offer the flip side. Showing up is important and not just showing up when things are good. It applies to the coach, not to just the fans.
No offense to Lyle Wolf or Josh Chambers, but Ex. A of Buzz Williams' lack of outreach/connection to the Maryland fanbase and greater Terps basketball community. .

Buzz's staccato speech pattern, using a bunch of meaningless phrases (often using words out of context or used incorrectly) became such a beat down to listen to not to mention his style of basketball sucked the life out of everyone.

Bucky's authenticity and genuineness on full display in that video. He is truly a unique individual....easy to like/trust.

I don't know that it's quite that far but I certainly don't think he cares if he gets fired. Probably helps to know that there's practically no way Maryland can fire him any time soon.

Marc did plan on derailing this, but to bring it back around, I think it's the big difference between Bucky and not just Buzz but even BK and Turgeon as well.
He at least acts thankful for the support he has and is encouraging people to help grow it. He keeps talking about how basketball games are supposed to be fun, and I think he's probably got some ideas on that front also as we move towards next season.

I think the point is it's a breath of fresh air to have somebody that wants to be involved in the community and in the school and appreciates the fan base. The issue wasn't A&M as Buzz is having the same issues connecting at his new "home".

Buzz is trying to gain entry into some sort of basketball parallel universe where you are rewarded for finding the one true path to coaching the most aesthetically unpleasing basketball. It somehow gets worse at each stop he's had.
He hasn't quite figured it out, but I'm guessing that some sort of singularity will open up and suck him up when he does master the science of bizarro basketball.

On the other hand, I love what Bucky is doing here. It's hard work to play like we do, but it's also fun and integrates aspects of pickup basketball that are aesthetically pleasing (maintaining game flow and minimizing moments where you take the air out of the ball). Our guys get to use their natural basketball instincts playing at the speed we do and that's just way more fun from a player standpoint and infinitely more watchable from a spectator standpoint.
Buzz got what he wanted. They had no coach and no AD, Buzz most likely got all sorts of power and favorable terms in his his contract. They had very little leverage. Esp since Buzz could,have just stayed here

Kind of what I was thinking -say what you will about Buzz, but it sounds like he really bent Maryland over in contract negotiations.
Dude is the real deal - very excited about the future.
I have I guess about a dozen friends who are Samford alumni. The school isn't an academic powerhouse but it builds boys and girls into adults. That he got advice from their administration to take the job was amazing to me, but it is exactly who Samford is as a community.
You can make whatever comparison you wish to our previous coaches. I liked most of them and felt they served us decently well with a single exception and he wasn't as awful as some describe him.
But Bucky is different and I hope he can continue to lead us and perhaps teach us by example for at least quite a bit. And I hope that includes winning, but the winning he models is exceptional regardless of Ws.

I highly recommend listening to the entire coaches hour. The guy is impossible not to like and he constantly gives great information. I'm with bobinator, my hype for this guy and our future is through the roof. I don't even care if we have an 0-2 week.

We were all in last year but I'm like you. He's great and even better fit for A&M.

I don't know that it got derailed. I think it drove the point home we are lucky to have what we have now. Somebody we appreciate an somebody who appreciates us
But to focus back on Bucky… My dream scenario for Aggie basketball has always been we find an up and coming coach that builds us into a national power, has a HOF career here, and eventually gets a statue and/or court/stadium named after him.
For a brief moment in time it felt like we had found that with BCG. That is what made his departure so disappointing. There have been things I have liked about all our coaches since, but never had the same feeling about any of them.
But damn it, Bucky has me believing again that it can happen.
