Bucky on support when the team is down

When Bucky said "I won't ever forget that" and repeated it again, I feel like he was sending a message to us - I'm staying here for a long time. It's almost like he was saying that the support from our Aggie fan base when we were down is the kind of confirmation he needed. The high school he won ships at sucked at basketball before he got there. No history, never good, not a power bball house. He made history there. Hopefully he is the kind of guy who wants to be the program builder (like coach K did at Duke), as opposed to having aspirations to be at a blue blood.

I was covering the program during the BCG years, and even though on the outside BCG said the right things and seemed to fit the mold of a young up and comer, he could be a mean SOB. I had a couple of people I trust tell me some uncomfortable stories about BCG abusing his power with some of the athletic department staffers. This abuse was kind of housed under the idea of demanding excellence from everyone.

Long term BCG was always going to crash out. The long term winners are those who can build a program with dignity and respect.

I'm way on the outside of the program now, but what I see with Bucky definitely makes me hopeful that we have a potential long term coach that can win and do it the right way.

Seems like I recall BCG making then assistant coach Buzz run bleachers for some perceived infraction. Remember thinking at the time that this wasn't appropriate to do with your staff. But yeah, I thought we were going to be building statues of the guy until I watched that introductory press conference at Kentucky.

He is genuinely a funny dude and it's easy to see why the players like playing for him.

Stick around for the after game interview and/or SEC Now segments when they've got Bucky on. They act like kids who can hardly wait for him to make a comment because they're already cracking up about whatever he's going to say.

Mostly a lurker on this board but have watched most of the games this season. Watching the Aggie basketball hour with Monaco made me realize how genuine Bucky is as a person. He seems like just a good dude.

I don't know what it was, but in his introductory presser when we hired him, something felt different. I usually let myself get hyped up when a coach starts talking about the new process, and the goals, and how hard he's going to work, and the culture, blah blah. But something inside of me legitimately felt different this time. I'm so glad we have him and hope he gets unwavering support win or lose.

He doesn't have this "I win games, you show up" approach that some of our coaches have had. He's not saying, hey it's great to have 9,000 people but we deserve 13,000, he's saying the crowd was great and helping us win games, let's keep it going.

Amen. And I can't understand why this is so hard for some of our past coaches

I would agree with that statement.

Another poster alluded to the physical punishment for not meeting standards and that's what was communicated to me as well. It's been years now so I don't remember the exact specifics, but it was definitely the kind of thing that would have looked bad in a 15 second twitter video with the coach forcing staffers to run.

Anyway, let's all just hope that we finally do have a legit up and comer that wants to stay in Aggieland and become a legend.

Anyone want to tell Buzz and Maryland that their "process" is currently losing...a lot.

As I've stated on many times and many others that this hire was great. It's a homerun.
a great coach (trust his process)
Fiercely Loyal
competitive as hell
a winner
He had been in one area his entire life and when your own AD tells you this is the job and school for you it says it all. Our basketball history has not been that great and that's what he's coming here to do is to win national championship at a school that it can be done. I think at one football game they introduced the team and he said you can have this as well if you work for it. These fans will come and reward you.
You just can't say enough great things about the guy. He's also very appreciative of the fans.

I had somehow missed the Samford AD comment above, so I googled it up to read it myself. Forgive me for an obvious SIAP, but for those who are not familiar with this please read it for yourself:

Quote:

He said Samford Athletic Director Martin Newton gave his blessing to take the A&M job, even after the program won more games over four years than any other in the Southern Conference.
"And it meant a lot to me when this job came open, (athletic director Martin Newton) said, Bucky, if you can take that job, you gotta take that job because that job is about to be, perhaps, the best job in the country with the way college athletics is going and the people behind that program."

Amazing
