Even the losses just feel different

In previous years under the last three coaches, we'd go into away games and good teams would routinely smash us by 20+ points. Routinely out-manned and out-coached by teams with a lot more talent; it felt like we rarely had a chance against good teams on the road.

It does suck that both the Tennessee game and Alabama game were winnable but the losses don't really disappoint me (whereas it'd be heartbreaking to me in previous years because it felt like on-the-road wins against good teams were so rare). We were extremely competive and had the chance to win both games in the last minute (and both games had some atrocious ref calls go against us).

Am I crazy? Probably. But it just feels so radically different to see an A&m team be able to play any team (even some of the best teams in the league) competively whether at home or on the road. These games, win or lose, are showing our tremendous potential this year for a run in the SEC tournament and March madness. We keep getting better and better and we've yet to see the cap of the team.

I realize we had some bumps earlier in the season but this team is just different.

Agreed. When we went down 9 points in the second half, I said out loud that A&M teams in the past would get frustrated and start jacking bad shots. Let's see how they handle this. Well, they worked for good shots, never flinched in the eye of adversity. Coach was calm, used his TOs well and kept everyone in sync and running the right game plan. Bama got punched every time they threw a haymaker. Just a great basketball game and very entertaining. I also left feeling like this kind of loss (and Tennessee) will come in handy in March. We actually got better last night.

I posted this in another thread BCG not as much but Turdge, BK (king of getting blown out), and buzz. Plus the games were just awful to watch.

I was thinking about this last night but couldn't come up with the right words for it.

A lot of times in big road games with our last few coaches, even BCG really to some degree, it always felt like we were trying to stack the cards to come up in our favor against teams that were otherwise obviously better than us.

Last night felt like "we know we're good, we know you're good, let's play some ball." Players were smiling and having fun the whole game, both teams were talking trash to each other, just an all around great basketball game.

Alabama is still obviously more talented than we are across the board, but I wouldn't say they were obviously "better," like the only reason the game was close wasn't because we forced them to play some kind of basketball they didn't want to play or something.

Team played hard and with confidence. Can't ask for anything more.

I feel like most of our games with Bama over the years have been entertaining. The blowout at Bama & the one in the SEC tournament sucked. The game we beat them at Reed was more "Buzz style", but the others were fairly up and down.

I didn't think we played well at Tennessee yet still had chance to win.

Last night both teams played well and they made 1 more shot than we did.

Well put. I think we gave them all they wanted and belonged on that court. Bama has elite shooters across the board. Their young guys are really talented and their front court has height and size advantages. Yet, they did not hammer us with those strengths. We went up and down the court, in a great game, and came up a few shots short. You take that every time. Anytime you have equal teams on an opposing team's court, you just want a shot at the end to win it. We essentially had that.

So on X every t sip says we are not really good at basketball. Just some facts about the stupid concept of record vs ranked opponents. 8 SEC teams have been ranked in the AP poll either all season or several weeks. We are currently 2-2 vs these 8. Beat Auburn and Georgia on the road. lost to Tennessee and Bama. We have the other 4 teams left to play.

The 9 SEC opponents we have played are 32-43 when they don't play us. The 9 teams left are 42-39. We need a couple of wins vs Fla, Vandy, Ark, Kentucky. At least 4-1 vs the other 5 would get us to 13-5 or 14-6. LIkely top 4 in the SEC. 14-6 may win the SEC.

I am confident we can keep this going. Buckyball.

I was thinking this morning that the Ags have already exceeded my expectations for the season.

They played hard last night on the road. I was super disappointed about the loss but I'm impressed with this program.

I hope they pop up like toast and keep fighting.

Who cares what sips on twitter think. We talking about fans of the team we beat on their own floor? GTFOH.

I think figuring out what record will win the SEC depends on if we can get Florida this weekend or not. If we can beat Florida than I think 13-5 might do it but you'll likely have a couple of teams tied there.

Right now Torvik projects Florida to win the league at 14-4 with us and Vandy right behind them at 13-5.

That's because we didn't have an offensive identity under any of our previous coaches. The difference is that we don't need to hang on our defense to keep us in the games any more. We can out execute you on the half court and utilize all of our 9-10 players to make you wonder where we're coming from. The ultra great point guard breaking down defenses just isn't going to fly anymore; it's about movement and having a lot of players with the danger of scoring at will that is the game now.

I thought Bucky outcoached Oates in running half court sets; they'd just shake their heads when one of our players blew right past them for a back door cut over and over again.

They didnt really want to work as hard and were looking to get bailed out. They were frustrated at our style of play and we made them work hard for their win. I'm curious how their next game at Auburn goes; they just might still be feeling the effects of our game at Neville Arena on Saturday.

I can't wait to see what this deal looks like when our dudes look more like their dudes in a couple years. I love this team and we've got some good and talented players, but man it would be nice to have some dudes with the effortless athleticism that a lot of those Bama players had.

Could argue we didn't play great last night and still scored 97 and about won. We missed so many short easy shots including a variety of layups. Our dumb fouls gave them a ton of free throws too. We can be even better.

Exactly. At some point in the coming years, I'd imagine very few of our current roster's players would even get playing time if transported to that future roster here.

This is going to be important to remember as this season progresses. The proof of concept is already well beyond what I think any of us could have hoped for. Regardless how the season ends we are probably going to be really good, maybe even elite by next year.

The only real goal this year was to show that it could work and we've already accomplished that. Any success, and I mean ANY, is absolute gravy.

If the NIL is competitive I think dude are going to be lining up.

We struggled with Bama in the half court in the backhalf of the second half. They kept getting into the paint which caused good close action and nice looks from deep. With those shooters, its a recipe for getting blown out. Instead we kept trading those half court punches from Bama with all kinds of offensive magic in our half court sets. It really was a thing of beauty watching the two teams trade punches.

During the timeouts, I would scroll through the game thread. GOOD GOD, those threads are insufferable. Every player needed to be pulled for a miss, refs were all paid and screwing us, man what a tough hang. Made me think if that were in public it would be those obnoxious drunk idiots in right field of an MLB stadium. Not sure how you guys even read that stuff.

What concerns me is that we're so good because our core group are a collection of older players who have been there before.

With the exception of Dominguez, Isaacs, Holloway and Vinson, we're going to have to retool again next year. I certainly wouldn't expect us to yield similar results with younger players even if they're more talented because I think their experience in playing at different schools is our x-factor.

He can keep going to older guys if he wants. My guess is we start to see a great blend of young athletic types and most likely a bunch of older post players.

Yes

This is a good team that is coached well.

Last nights game was just a good game and it came down to which team made the shots in the last minute.

We are a top 15 type team. Its obvious that the quality of play is dramatically higher compared to our season long efficiency rankings, NET rankings and such. The team that played in mediocre games in 2025 didnt play like this team, didnt defend like this team. If you have your bubble preconceptions still on the brain you can safely throw them out.

Scored 97 on the road against a good team Yes we ran out of time but it doesn't feel like a loss

Lots of positives to be taken away from the performance and effort

Sounds about right

The Florida game is huge for us for the sec race but also perception and cementing us as a tournament team

Really any of the 4 tough games we have left would take care of the last 2 parts

In the past we had to play perfect, then once a team broke serve and got a spurt, donesky.

Now with our style of pressure and 3 ball shooting, it feels we know we can overcome and get back in a game at any point. That confidence is huge.

Tonight was a different ball game. I'm not actually too worried about it. That's a really tough matchup for our roster and we will likely never see a shooting half like that again.
