Game Preview
Another chance to take down a basketball giant. This time it's a giant the reigning national champions, at home in front of you, the 12th Man. The Aggies will battle the Gators tonight at 7:30 looking to bounce back after heartbreaking 100-97 loss in an offensive explosion to Alabama. Tonight brings an even bigger test, but giants are meant to fall.
Both teams sitting at 7-2, winner will sit alone atop the conference. Saying that about the 2025 national champions and the first year head coach of a team assembled entirely through the portal is wild. However, as crazy as the odds may be, as different the perspectives, as different as the identities of the two programs, it's anyone's game tonight. When that ball is tipped, you'll have an established program who plays with lots of size versus a rising program who plays smaller and extremely fast.
Florida is led by an overwhelming presence in their front court. they are led in scoring by their 3 bigs starting with Thomas Haugh who averages over 17 points and 6 rebounds. At 6'9 he normally plays as their small forward. Haugh has an excellent motor can slash into the paint but can also knock down a couple threes, a matchup nightmare. Their two post players standing at 6'10 and 6'11 are exceptionally long, dominating defenders and rebounders, and solid around the basket with the ball. Alex Condon is a projected first round pick and a big reason they won a national title last year. Condon averages 13 and 8, while Robert Chinyelu averages 12 points and 11 rebounds. Them 3 spearhead the nation's best rebounding team and can shut down the paint against any opponent.
Their two guards are both transfers. Boogie Fland from Arkansas and Xavian Lee from Princeton. They both average just over 10 points despite shooting 25 and 19 percent from three. They aren't great shooters, but they're willing shooters. They are best in transition. They love to turn you over. They play defense a lot like the Spurs. The Spurs are ultra aggressive up top knowing Wemby is behind them. These Florida guards will play stingy defense knowing the interior defense they have behind them.
While they like to impose their physical size on you. It's going to be a interesting stylistic matchup against Bucky Ball. As it stands on paper, we'll have Dominguez and Griffen covering their 3 and 4. This may be a nightmare on the defensive side for us, however, will their bigger players be able to run 90 feet with us. Can they sustain their style of play for 40 minutes. Florida has 6 guys who average over 15 minutes a game and 3 post players who play at all. They will be in for an interesting matchup against our style. Lee and Fland hardly turn the ball over, but how will they respond to a full court press, every single possession.
We're going to see an influx of different lineups like we did against a bigger team in Alabama. We will absolutely need to see big minutes from Jamie Vinson, Zach Clemence, and Federiko. I want to see Bucky Ball at its absolute peak. We need to wear them down, we need to press every inch of the court, we need to get out in transition. We need to do our best to grab rebounds. Longer shots = longer rebounds. It's gonna be a tough start against their size, but can we wear them down, especially Chinyelu and Condon. We need to do our best at eliminating their easy baskets down low. Make their bigs work for it, draw some fouls, but most importantly we're gonna need to knock some three's down. We are going to need some big time three's, hopefully we can get some solid shooting from Dominguez, Pop, Griffen, and more. We'll run a lot of pick and roll and try to get past their bigs or kick it back out.
Let's light up that scoreboard and make this an intense chaotic back and forth track meet. Many will count us out, many will say there is no possible way we can keep up with their size. But I say can they keep up with our speed. Doesn't matter who we play, doesn't matter what the score is, we play our style of ball. Make them adjust. I'm not counting this is as a loss. I'm expecting us to go in there and give them a dog fight just like we would anyone. We'll leave those bugs grasping for air and media timeouts as we run all over the court. It starts with forcing them into bad looks, turning the ball, and then it's time for Bucky Ball. It's time to run. It's time to shock the nation. It's time to BTHO florida!!!!!
