We are who we are and will ride and die with our press.

We've died with it the last two games. It didn't bother the Tide or Gators in the least. Each team attacked it with success if we got overly aggressive.

Hopefully this is a function of playing two uber talented teams in a row, and we will get back to turning teams over starting w Mizzou.

Otherwise, if this is a "book is out on how to beat BuckyBall" thing, we are in for a rough ride.

I feel like our loss was less due to the press and more due to the fact we were 1-27 at one point.

Yeah we're suppose to hit right back but not tonight. I think we may have placed too much emphasis on their prowess in the paint. Too many times we would get inside and start doing gymnastics in anticipation of a block and turned it into just a bad shot. Take it hard to the rim and make them make a play!

it'll definitely be an issue against second weekend teams but I feel like we knew that going into the year. I think we were still even or slightly ahead in the TO margin but it didn't matter because they probably had half of our FG total in dunks tonight. The shot quality differential was the worst we'll see this year. Wonder how the team will feel this week. Will the max effort continue to be there? I think it will, and it needs to start against Mizzou. Gotta have that game to get some momentum back on the side of Buckyball.

I think Alabama showed how to beat the press: Attack, all the way to the rim.

Other teams would try to hurry it across the court, then set up some kind of offense. That doesn't work against our press generally.

But, running it all the way up the court to the rim killed us against those two teams (technically it felt like Alabama ran it to the baseline 3, but same concept).

Tonight when we gambled the gambles looked weak and Florida made us pay every single time with and EASY bucket.

Bucky addressed this somewhat in his postgame. Our full court greatly loses effectiveness when we can't make shots

I don't think you can take anything from tonight. When you aren't hitting shots you can't set up the full court D and grind them down.

You do make a fair point. At Alabama, it didn't seem effective, but we were in it in the end with a chance to win, so you cannot argue the results.

Bigger better athletes. We couldn't make wide open shots.

Can't have Dominguez and Lane bricklaying. Sometimes a good beat down helps to refocus

when they couldnt go around A&M, they just went over the top. almost wasnt fair. Not sure we play any more teams that can do that.

Hang in there Ags… 40 minutes of hell with rollin with Nolan wasn't always pretty. Nolan didn't win a national championship until he had a team with an inside game that could keep them in games.

Running a press off a bricked three pointer is a fool's errand.

If you can't make shots, your press will stink.

Playing good defense regardless of scheme is difficult when you are bricking from the arc

I think the press "worked" against Alabama in the sense that Alabama attacked it which kept the tempo of the game up and made things easier on us on offense.

We're not a particularly good half court offense against this kind of team because of our lack of bigs, so we'll live with some easy baskets if it means we're getting good looks too before your defense can really get set. I think we did that against Alabama.

We did not do it against Florida but I think that might also be a product of Florida having a week to prepare for it. This was always going to be a tough matchup, but them having extra time to work on what they needed to do against us added another layer to it.

Last night, we played tight. We had just lost a tough mid-week game and our Saturday opponent was even for formidable. We wore special uniforms. The lights got even brighter. The press wasn't the problem. Making baskets was the issue. Our offense struggled and the Florida defense was solid. Across the board, our shooting percentages were down. Cold game.

Prediction - we have a great recovery game on Wednesday.

Probably already been said, but.

The team is coming off of two road games in a week, two plane rides away, one of which involved a late night 3 hour bus trip due to weather. Fl, on the other hand, did not play a midweek game this past week, and their previous game was at home.

I know Florida has got the better team, but I also gotta cut our guys a little slack. The schedule didn't exactly line up great for them. We may get another shot at them later, and it might just go a lot better next time.

Talent was the issue. Alabama and Florida have more talent. A&M has no useful size is small and gritty but not overtly talented. Need players badly.

It's a lot tougher to press and trap guys that have a decent handle and are 6 inches taller than you. You can trap a 6 foot guy, trapping a 6'6 guy who can just throw it over you is a lot tougher.

The bright side is there's not another team in college hoops that has the makeup of Florida (tons of bigs that can actually handle the ball).

We've got a good team, but we're going to lose that Florida matchup 9 out of 10 times. IMO they are the worst possible matchup for us.

Agree we are at a talent deficit especially relative to Florida but we are better than we showed last night. Team was tight and got tighter after the poor shooting start. Florida is talented, huge , battle tested and well coached .

Pressing is a lot more effective after made shots than off of defensive rebounds. Make more shots and the press looks better . Granted both Florida and Alabama were not particularly bothered by the press when we had the opportunity to use it but we aren't going to stop doing it.

Amen. Go in hard and draw contact and eventually a foul.

I think there are times we don't sell the contact enough. Maybe need an acting lesson or two.

Also, our press is as much about wearing down a team over time than it is about TOs. I think that was the case with Bama, but didnt seem to have any affect on Fl due to getting so far behind early.
bobinator

I don't think we need to sell the contact, we need to get better at actually taking two point shots.

Some of our guys take so many circus shots around the basket because they're afraid of blocks that it's hard to tell when they get fouled. Refs are a lot less likely to give you a foul when your form already looks funky from the beginning of the attempt.

Our team is who it is and our philosophy on defense isn't going to change mid-February. Despite the hot start to conference play, we aren't in serious contention to win the whole SEC. The talent isn't there yet. I think we're on the right track and improvement is likely.

That's only because nobody but Florida is really in contention to win it.

Right now Torvik projects four teams, including us, to tie for second at 12-6, three games behind Florida.
