We were very amped up at first. Settled for 3s way too early. We already shoot them a bunch, but we shot them a TON in that first segment. Then we start attacking the rim with more set plays and couldn't get anything to go in. Just a bad night and agreed their size made us hesitant.

Felt like the ball wasnt moving nearly as much as it usually does on offense. Lot of dribbling and handing off. They were just so big at every position.

I feel like Florida's defense had a lot to do with the 1-27

We didnt get very many open looks/uncontested shots during that stretch, and the ones we did get it seemed like our guys pressed to make them because they felt they absolutely had to when finally given on open shot, and thus they missed

FL beat Bama by 23. They are a final 4 team. We were shooting over trees that could run. We ain't there yet. And we shot horribly. We aren't bad shooters either. Probably tired legs.

They were over amped for big crowd then tried to do too much when shots weren't falling

And Florida played great

I disagree with Bob to an extent. Most of those early misses were good open shots. Maybe we thought the size would be an issue and didn't shoot with the same confidence but UF didnt look great in the first half and we let them off the hook. We were down 11 and should've been up 10-12.

Later, I agree we took bad shots but by then Florida was warmed up.

I had no problem with our stlyle. we took a lot of good shots- we were just ice cold. And yes, we were definitely intimidated by them.

Also our quick turnaround from Bama and their off-week played a big part.

I thought our set D was really good. Kind of shiwed me we CAN play with any team. Hopefully someone else knocks iut Florida, and there arent likely any teams built like them that we'll face.

It was like the circus came to Reed.

People seemed a little wtf when he was announced, but at the end, he was given a warm round of applause.

The whole thing made me chuckle.

It is all about how we shoot. While Florida had a huge height advantage they didnt make us miss the open jumpers just caused havoc if we tried to go into the paint by us having to alter our shots

In our three losses that we really werent in the game or shouldnt have lost we shot

OK State .322 field / .257 from 3
Cen Fla .368 field /.310 from 3
Florida .305 field / .265 from 3

WITH THOSE GAMES ABOVE INCLUDED

we shoot .467 field and .370 from 3 for season

Florida broke our press/ defense quite well for as big as they are reason they are defending champs

We will have plenty of days when someone is off shooting wise...but we have plenty of shooters to mix in if one or two have bad games but if you cant get the turnovers and no one shoots well for most part we likely wont win against top tier teams

No need to change the game plan other that no matter who you play dont start thegame on 1-27 shooting

Florida just threw big to big over the top of the press. It was totally disheartening. Other teams don't have 7 foot guys with handles.

The last two games the press has been bad. That is concerning. You know we are going to give up some layups, so we got to at least get some more turnovers out of it and turn the ball more (make them work).

Found myself contemplating the young man's career choice. Wonder how long it lasts....how it might evolve?

Two thoughts …..

Meet my son (father, brother, etc), the doctor, lawyer, … err, "performer" and

Find something you love and you'll never work a day in your life.

I suspect he loves the positive reenforcement from sports fans and does well financially.

The press outcome has been bad. I think it was more about the opposition than it was about us.

I still would argue the press wasn't bad against Alabama. Despite what Bucky has said I think people still mostly look at the press solely in terms of fatigue and turnovers.

I'd even argue it wasn't bad for the first half against Florida until we started having to be riskier and riskier with it early in the second half and then things fell apart.

This is the big difference between our press system and a classic "40 minutes of hell" system. It's not just about turnovers and fatigue. There are other factors also, and depending on the game we're in they can change.

- It can be about time. Maybe we're playing a team that runs a very good half court offense and if you let them just bring the ball up the court uncontested, you're defending that half court offense for 30 seconds. If they're having to break the press, and then reset into their half court offense, maybe you're only defending it for 15 or 20. I'd argue this is where it semi-worked against Florida in the first half. They weren't exactly getting stellar looks either.

- It can be about our own offense. This is where I'd say it was effective against Alabama (and Georgia). Alabama is way more athletic than we are, and if we let them get set up in a half court defense we're not going to be nearly as effective. So we press to force the game tempo. Alabama wants to play fast two, so instead of breaking the press and resetting, they're going to break it and keep attacking, this keeps the overall game tempo high which results in some baskets for them, but also maximizes our chances on offense. The Alabama and Georgia games were our best offensive performances of the season against a Quad 1 or Quad 2 opponent.

Yeah that's a good point - I was just looking at turnovers caused but running down the shot clock for their half court offense is a big part of what makes a press effective.

As you said, I would ignore most of the 2nd half versus Florida as Bucky said we upped the risk to make it a higher variance game since that was our only chance to get back into it.
