Game Preview
It's almost March. 4 conference games left. One win away from 20 wins and 10 conference wins. We control our destiny. Tonight at 8pm provides us a huge opportunity. A quad 1A ranked opponent on the road in Arkansas. Little to lose from a loss tonight, the world to gain from a win.
Tonight the Aggies will take on a talented Arkansas team led by future lottery pick and one of the best guards in the nation in Darius Acuff. He's averaging 22 points while shooting over 50% from the field and 44% from three. Everything they do is through Acuff, he had 49 two games ago against Bama. They have two other young guards in Meleek Thomas and Billy Richmond III. Thomas is an excellent shooter while Richmond loves to attack and is explosive off the dribble. They have 3 bigs they rotate led by Trevon Brazille (yes he's still there lol), Nick Pringle, and Malique Ewin, all standing at 6'10. They are great rebounders and great around the rim. They love to lob it up to them.
One interesting thing about Arkansas is that Calipari keeps a short rotation. With Karter Knox out, only 7 other guys average over 10 minutes a game and 1 other over 5 minutes a game. It'll be interesting to see how they rotate or bring in bench players against us. To have any hope, we can't let them get ahead fast. They can score quickly, they are athletic, they will rebound and push the ball to their guards. If we want to win we need to wear them down and/or get them into foul trouble.
We are ahead of the bubble now. Winning cures all and winning our last two has helped us get back on track. Only 4 games left till the postseason. A loss on the road at Arky won't hurt, but how about we go get a signature win. It will be tough. Arkansas is also 16-1 at home. They do have a huge matchup with Florida this weekend. Late midweek game, we can catch them looking ahead. We are in dire need of a hot shooting game. We are going to need it.
We will need to lock down on defense. This is a matchup against elite speed and one on one players who can create for themselves. They love to drive and lob it up or get a pass to their bigs down low. We will need some productive minutes from our bigs to keep them out of the paint and grab some rebounds. We will also need some big time 3's from multiple guys. Slowing down Arkansas will be tough so we'll need our offense rolling. I want to see 4 or 5 guys with multiple three's.
Let's go get a signature win. March is near, you can feel the excitement in the air. Every game feels like it's March, let's see who steps up in this big game tonight. Will someone hit 3 or 4 three's, will Clemence, Pop, or Dibba have a productive game off the bench, does Dominguez light it up tonight, will Agee or Hill go for 20? Let's play fast, knock down some three's and wear them down. Let tonight be chaotic and one to remember! BTHO arky!!!
