It's between Chuck Knoblauch and Ruben Dominguez for me. Both players were elite, and then overnight just flat out couldn't do anything positive during a game. It's absolutely mind numbing.

I think Reuben raised some people's expectations far beyond the player he actually is.

He's a pure shooter, with almost no athleticism that gets easily shut down by longer defenders. The gameplan to shut him down is out there and we've done nothing to adjust to it.

He always made open shots…not anymore

he's had plenty of open looks lately, just missing. That only applied in a couple of games this season

Dominguez, Griffen, Lane, and Pop. On Feb. 1st I trusted all 4 of those guys to hit threes without hesitation. Now none of them can buy a bucket and we're relying on Hill, Agee, or Clemence to play solo hero ball on any given possession. This offense is absolutely toast without dudes who have the confidence to take and make threes.

I think the ice cold start against Florida somehow broke us mentally. The shooting just hasn't been the same since then. Or maybe their legs are shot after pressing all year. Either way we've become honestly kind of brutal to watch

Everyone has dropped greatly except Agee, Hill and Clemence.

You'd think a guy like Rueban; if he's going to play, would have at least a handful of sets ran for him during the game. Staggars, double staggers, Elevator screens, plays where HE is the screener then comes off another screen (STS or screen the screener action), baseline exit screens etc… but nope. Instead, he comes off ball screens and DHO typically which doesn't suit him. So as much as we can blame him for his regression we also have to look at schemes used to combat what the defense is taking away to take him away.

I don't know if I'd say plenty, but agreed he isn't even hitting the ones that are open. He clearly has lost his confidence because he also has had looks that he just isn't taking. And if he isn't going to shoot it he can't be on the floor.

It's definitely time to have him come off of the bench.

I think Dominguez needs to stay in the game and take shots until he gets his stroke back…I don't care how many misses he has. Tell him up front that he has to take every shot he has and if he keeps missing he''ll get booed relentlessly. May as well. We're not going anywhere if we're not a good 3 point shooting team.

I'm every bit as baffled by the disappearance of Griffin. He was playing like a demon for so long. And then…..poof. Vanished

Same. It's a little comical that people were decrying the Agee attempts and now he's about the best one on the floor.

yep- Dominguez Pop Lane and Griffen- all fading fast. It's not teams figuring us out- it's us wearing out- memtally and/or physically.

Trending downward is not a good way to get selected for NCAA tournament.
Seems like we haven't recovered from the Florida loss?

Texags saying why aren't we ranked in top 25 and now will be why can't we make the NCAA?

Hard to know what's going on without knowing exactly what coach is asking of these guys. Rueben hit the wall a typical freshman would once he routinely has to play against better and more athletic talent. Good players eventually adjust. Will it be this season? Next? Never? Nobody knows. But that same dynamic has hit our entire team, including it seems like Bucky. We're pretty much staying true to our strategy while the league has figured us out. They easily break the press, routinely dominate us in the paint, make our zone defense look middle school, and are now jumping our passing lanes like they know what's coming. Because they likely do.

I keep waiting for us to adjust back. Perhaps this teams limitations means we can't. But it's pretty clear that we aren't winning without multiple 3pt threats on the court at all times actually hitting shots. That's it. That's our only chance. Yet it seems we are trying to nothing new to get the guys who can be those threats open.

He passed up the ONE open look he had against tu and then immediately took two wild threes after that.

I keep feeling that this is the early days of the spread offense in football. Took a bunch of people by surprise early and even embarassed plenty, but when that system went up against more athletic, larger teams, it started to wear down. Then people started saying the system can't work on bigger teams, it wont last. Yet, most of the spread concepts that Leach and Mumme developed have permeated the game today. Alabama won a few titles running spread offense! So I think, yes, our team seems to have lost their legs. Agee is, ironically, not the perfect match for this system, IMO. His body is not built for pressure. Yet, he is definitely our best player. I think this system needs 2 more years to get to something where other teams in the SEC might consider copying. Yes, we need better athletes - for sure. We also need better conditioning - for sure. But we also need experience and history and that will come in recruiting. Remains to be seen if Bucky can cross that ever elusive chasm that lots of Aggie coaches face. Can he win enough, long enough to attract elite level talent to break into the upper echelon category. Not Duke, UNC, Uconn elite. I really mean Iowa State, Auburn, Alabama, maybe even early Florida elite. Concern being, if we fizzle to end the year, and have a tough go at it next year, was a 7-1 start in SEC play in 25-26 the nadir. Time will tell.

Still a believer here.

How is Rueben getting any minutes? He shouldn't ever be on the floor, period. Zero defensive or rebounding skills. Can't get open- except against athletic teams (aka non conference). I'm sure he's a fantastic guy- but if we are talking basketball - why is he on the floor?

I know these games all happened near each other, so it's easy to want to paint them all with a broad brush, but I don't think we have like one single issue. Why we lost the Missouri game was completely different from why we lost the Texas game. Why we lost the Texas game is completely different from why we lost the Arkansas game, which is also completely different from why we lost the Vandy game.

Our defense was pretty good against Texas, it was terrible against Missouri. Our offense was really good against Oklahoma and Missouri, it was terrible against Texas and Florida.

Seems like every other game or so we fix one thing only for something else to spring up.

But I do agree that right now confidence is the biggest issue for several guys.

Right now we look like a team that when we make a play, we hope it's going to work, instead of expecting it to. We have guys that look like they're shooting because they know they're supposed to rather than because they're confident they're going to score.

I don't know how else to describe but as Jimmy Dykes, who I normally hate, would say, right now we're just not playing with a lot of conviction. Although I thought our pressure defense, which had had this problem also, was much better on Saturday. It did give Texas some problems.

Am I the only one old enough around here to remember Mackey Sasser?
