I keep feeling that this is the early days of the spread offense in football. Took a bunch of people by surprise early and even embarassed plenty, but when that system went up against more athletic, larger teams, it started to wear down. Then people started saying the system can't work on bigger teams, it wont last. Yet, most of the spread concepts that Leach and Mumme developed have permeated the game today. Alabama won a few titles running spread offense! So I think, yes, our team seems to have lost their legs. Agee is, ironically, not the perfect match for this system, IMO. His body is not built for pressure. Yet, he is definitely our best player. I think this system needs 2 more years to get to something where other teams in the SEC might consider copying. Yes, we need better athletes - for sure. We also need better conditioning - for sure. But we also need experience and history and that will come in recruiting. Remains to be seen if Bucky can cross that ever elusive chasm that lots of Aggie coaches face. Can he win enough, long enough to attract elite level talent to break into the upper echelon category. Not Duke, UNC, Uconn elite. I really mean Iowa State, Auburn, Alabama, maybe even early Florida elite. Concern being, if we fizzle to end the year, and have a tough go at it next year, was a 7-1 start in SEC play in 25-26 the nadir. Time will tell.
Still a believer here.
