There a lot of folks outside Aggieland who seem to want to make light of Bucky's accomplishments. Here's my take on why this season has been unique. We all know and understand how dire things were when Bucky arrived. Hired last, 1 player, etc. Many will dismiss this by saying that Coach Cal did the same thing at Arkansas the previous year, but this is really apples to oranges. First Cal was coming from an even higher profile job than Arkansas, with his obvious track record. Yes, he inherited one player, but that one player was Trevon Brazile. Cal was able to bring a half dozen players from Kentucky or his Kentucky recruiting class straight to Arkansas. Building the rest of his roster was not that hard after that.
It cannot be understated how incredible it was for Bucky, too compile this diverse group of players. He was having to recruit high D1 talent, something he was not doing at Samford. I would take the class from him where he explains how he found a dozen talented players from random backgrounds to buy into him as a new head coach in the SEC, A&M as their destination, and without probably any promises as to their roles on this team. To then get that group to 11 wins in the SEC is really awesome and worthy of the coach of the year.
