He's fiery. I like him. Think he's great. I like him like I liked John McEnroe.
not a fan, just a little weird for me. that being said i can't stand to watch bill self whine like a little B either back when we were in the big 12 or Nate Oats. LIke it makes me wonder if those guys could coach players like we had this year? could they actually win without 3 5 stars and mcdonalds all americans

They said something last night, and Im going to screw this up a little, that they went from 10:00 left in the second half against Duke to well into the second half against Illinois without turning the ball over. Again thats against Duke and Illinois. Most teams couldn't do that against Mary Hardin Baylor and Texas Lutheran. Crazy, crazy stat.

Agree that he's a great coach, while being "peculiar", but admittedly haven't studied him enough to dislike him. That said, I really like our guy, and much prefer him to a Buzz W. type, or a Hurley type. Not sure I'd trade Bucky for Hurley even if it meant a trophy. Don't believe UConn prevails.
What's funny many of the successful college basketball coaches both guys and gals are interesting.

Great coach. I do wonder about how living in his brother's shadow in the 90s plays a part in his mentality

I'd trade Bucky for Melvin Watkins if it meant a national title in exchange.
Why wouldn't anybody? The only problem with Melvin Watkins was that he didnt win games.

Hated persona if coaching another team but if coaching your team you don't like being associated with the personality but you love the results, similar to Manziel.
Sports fandom, to me, is as much about rooting for your team as it is hating on others. It's fun.

He's great for the game. College basketball (sports) needs guys like him. I'm not a UConn fan but they are arguably the greatest basketball program in my life lifetime (40yr) alongside Duke.

May seemed pretty humble in the interview I saw . Maybe it was an outlier … I dunno?
I don't love Hurley's demeanor but there's no question he's effective.
Pulling for Michigan tonight altho not all that invested in it.

Switching subjects a little, I amazed that over the last 5-10 years, I just never hear anything about UConn's men's team during the preseason and regular season. The only time I ever hear about them is when the NCAA tournament starts. Maybe it's because I'm just so locked into SEC basketball. But, for example, this season, I heard plenty about some of the Big 10 teams, but nothing about UConn. Does the mainstream sports media not like UConn, or the Big East?

Not saying it's right....
but talking about UConn doesn't attract as many eyeballs, meaning it doesn't make the money flow very much
Mainstream media targets whatever generates max eyeballs and max clicks
He's a great coach. Their offensive sets are a thing of beauty at times. They are absolute killers coming out of timeouts. Always seem to get an easy look.
His book that recently came out is a good read. A lot of redemption in his story. He had to deal with a lot of his own demons and to his credit he was able to evolve as a person.
I think what comes out of him now is unfiltered and that can rub a lot of people the wrong way.

There is something about him. At least a couple of coaches have had that look that they didn't want to shake his hand. Not sure it's that he's beaten them either.

So, the Big East's TV contract is with Fox, TBS/TNT, and NBC. ESPN barely gives those schools the time of day. If you have FUBO, then you don't have NBC or TBS/TNT/Tru networks. The games are hard to find.
And ESPN and it's worn out Gameday-esque nonsense overwhelms you with ACC, Big XII and SEC basketball coverage.

Local media bias.
The Big East schools have not fully committed to UIL so they do not have as big of a reach as a Big12/SEC/ACC/10 school. But I have feeling that will change sooner rather than later.

Yep, when he's not cussing out the refs his face looks like he's suffering a stroke the way he contorts it.
He's insufferable. But because he wins, many think he's awesome. He's a winning version of Mick Cronin, miserable people that nobody would like if they weren't head coaches. Bob Huggins was like Cronin, while Hurley is more like Bobby Knight at Indiana.

Forgot about Cronin, that dude has only one emotion...... miserable.
I remember seeing him in the tourney cussing out his ball boys during a timeout b/c they didn't place their chairs in a perfect semi-circle the exact way he wanted it away from their bench.
At least Bobby Knight was entertaining in his press conferences.
You'd need a shrink to figure them out, but his brother Bobby coaches the same way. He's just not as effective at it. They probably coach just like their father did when they played for him in HS.
