I like that he wears a suit like a proper basketball coach.

I didn't understand why people didn't t like him until watching the game last night. He gesticulates wildly during the game works the officials overtime and generally draws a lot of attention to himself

If you are not rooting for his team it is extremely annoying. I do not remember him behaving this way against Duke but I also was more focused on dukes crappy basketball at the time than his antics

I also don't remember him overtly putting on a display against Illinois but maybe not focused on the game too closely

Overall uconn is a big fish in a small pond and leverages an easy schedule to post season success. At the same time those kids play their ass off and squeeze every bit of paste out of the tube.

I did not want them to win last night but they played good ball and I respected that. Hurley was too much valvano and massimino for me.

Should have had a tech called on him that might have given the game back to Duke. Do not like. (And I don't like Cadeau either. Wish they could both lose.)

When? Why?

Didn't you see him "headbutt" and stare down the ref after Uconn made the three? Most coaches in most situations would have been teed up for that.

C'mon. He didn't "headbutt" him. It's not like he went full Zinedine Zidane on the ref.

Was it weird AF? Yes. But let's not make it something that it wasn't

He's great for the game. College basketball (sports) needs guys like him. I'm not a UConn fan but they are arguably the greatest basketball program in my life lifetime (40yr) alongside Duke.

Very few coaches have had a chance to win 3 titles in 4 years...K, Wooden, Rupp

In the last 30 years, UNC has been to 9 final 4's vs UCONN's 8. The difference is that UCONN is 13-2 with 6 titles, and UNC is 8-5 with 3 titles. Duke has made 7 appearances, and is 7-4 with 3 titles.

What puts UConn over the top (for me) is they have done it with 3 different coaches.

Kevin Ollie's national championship ranks right up there with Gene Chizik's.

Fair, which would have been the same as Hubert's had he not blown a 16pt lead in a title game.

I put "headbutt" in quotation marks for a reason. It is hard to describe what he did, but many coaches would have been give a technical foul for that weird forhead-to-forhead staredown.

Didn't you see the many articles where many people were surprised that he did not get a technical foul called on him? Just because you say "exactly 0" doesn't make it so.

UConn is the premier basketball program in the country now. UNC and Kentucky have entered "cycle through coaches" mode and Scheyer is building a choker program.

They aren't a true mid-major, but I love what they are doing up there in taking on the big money athletic departments and killing them.

In an era where the best prospects stop by college for just a single season on their way to the NBAand collect millions of dollars in NIL paymentsHurley's all-out approach hasn't attracted the biggest names. Since taking over the program, in 2018, Hurley has assembled a top-five recruiting class only once. (Duke, by contrast, has put together seven top-five classes in that timewithout a single title to show for it.)

Instead, Hurley scours the country for players who meet two specific qualifications. The first is that they serve a defined role in his intricately detailed offensive schemesuch as four-year starter Alex Karaban, whose shooting has already led to two UConn titles.

And the second is a question of character: They cannot mind when he shouts at them for hours every single day.
"Hurley thinks, 'Does this kid love it enough that he can do it with us 11 months a year?'" Moore said. "'When I get on him relentlessly, can he hold up?'"

Hurley's brutal training sessions do more than toughen his team up. They also lay the groundwork of perhaps the most sophisticated attack in college basketball. Hurley has long envied NFL coaches like Kyle Shanahan, who script every single action of their offenses with absurdly long play sheets.

So Hurley built one of his own, sourcing plays from professional leagues around the world. At first, his staff was in disbelief when he showed up with the new curriculum in 2022.

"I'm not even going to remember this," Mathew Johnson, a former UConn assistant, thought of the seemingly endless list of plays. "How are we going to get the players to remember this?"

The answer, as always, was practice. After rehearsing again and again, UConn's players come to understand that Hurley's sheet amounted to college basketball's ultimate cheat code. When the Huskies start running circles against an opponent who has no idea what's coming next, all that suffering on the practice floor is worth it.

"It's beautiful basketball," said Hassan Diarra, a guard on Hurley's back-to-back champions. "It's fulfilling/"
