Does the UK way in basketball just not seem right?

I know it's well within the rules, and, heck, I guess A&M would do the same, but it just seems wrong in their "rent a stud" scheme. It really seems to me that their championships are just cheap; I guess if I were a Kentucky fan that I would feel different. But, on the outside, they haven't really earned anything. Instead, they have just hired a few guns who have no real connection to UK ball other than a minor league rest stop. I support the SEC schools, but I have a hard time with them for some reason.

I guess I'm the only one, though, who feels this way in this day and age.

I do dislike the system in its current state.

As an aside, I'd also say that I don't think that the NCAA calls enough fouls these days. Games just aren't as good when defenses are allowed to get away with so much.

I digress. I don't like to start my own threads.

What should UK do? Not recruit the best players?

I don't think it's a UK problem so much as a problem with college basketball that UK has used to its full advantage.

These guys that have no interest in going to college should probably be playing in other professional leagues like Brandon Jennings did. They aren't going to school, they are hanging around a college campus pretending to take classes.

It might be time for the NBA to get rid of the one year rule, extend it to three years, or for the NCAA to change their rules so that schools have to give out three year scholarships with two one year options at the end. The current system makes no sense, and I think it is part of the reason why college basketball is declining in popularity. Too many of the historic elites aren't building up their teams into consistent, high quality teams that play good basketball, they are hiring a bunch of one-and-dones to talent their way to a title. They don't get to develop an attachment over 4 years to players like we did with Acie Law IV, Joseph Jones, Dominique Kirk, and Marlon F Pompey.

A&M is in trouble of being ruled ineligible for the post season in basketball due to so many kids leaving/not graduating.

When will it hit UK? Everyone of the 1 and done players counts against their academic progress.

There are many in the BBN who are unhappy with the "1 and done" rule. UK's history is for 4 year players and long term relationships between fans and players. Historically UK would recruit a few elite players and fill the team with local boys who played above their ability because it was UK.

I think they accept the current rule because it is what it takes to compete today but if you polled them I have a feeling a vast majority would be against it. The "unforgetables" never won a banner but they may be a fan favorite of the BBN because Petino was forced to go back to the old Rupp model with a KY dominated UK team. Local boy makes good is a big deal to the overall BBN and high school ball still dominates KY and IN populations. Basketball really is more like a religion in these states.

I have no problem with it. Syracuse won with Carmelo, UK won with one and dones last year, several teams recently have won with those types of those players. It is a rule flaw, not anything shady that UK is doing. Find something else to contemplate buddy.

Trust me! Without the one and dones Kentucky would still be Kentucky! They would just do it with 4 year players! Heck, I hate to see any of my Razorbacks leave after 2 years, even 3 years. Fans love to follow they're players for 4 years. One year ain't a career! Kentucky loves championships! but, but

The NCAA adjusts the APR for kids who leave in good standing for professional jobs.

That's how I feel as well. But unless every year they get guys with the same type of chemistry as they had last year, they won't be running the sport any time soon. But they'll always be dangerous.

I think they should let kids go pro right out of high school and if you sign an LOI to play college ball, you are ineligible for the draft for three years.
