Stupid, pointless list...no college stadium
Should EVER be considered for hosting THE sporting event of the year!

agreed. and no "college town" could ever hope to support everything surrounding the event (could you imagine BCS hotel prices, for instance?!)

I remember the superbowl at Rice. Standing in my parents front yard raking leaves I could hear the PA annoucer clearly and the cheering crowd. We had people who were going to the game parking on our street about a dozen blocks from the stadium.

Texas sold it out to play Houston there a couple of times. Texas and A&M used to nearly sell it out to play Rice there.

Fun fact: if every Rice Alumni, living AND dead came to a game, they would still have 30K seats open. Hard to believe that it still has the largest capacity in Houston.

How did Rice ever get a 70,000 seat stadium built?

Pre-astrodome, Rice Stadium was conceived as the premier sports venue for a booming city. A few Rice alums like the Brown brothers were able to make it affordable for the university.

Also, when the stadium was in the works and/or completed Rice wasn't exactly a pushover. In 49 they went 10-1 with the only loss coming at LSU 14-7 and in 53 they went 9-2, won the conference and beat Alabama 28-6 in the Cotton Bowl.

Times have changed a little obviously.

For anyone who's never heard of it, check out this article on the Shamrock Bowl: http://www.chron.com/sports/texans/article/Sixty-years-later-Shamrock-Bowl-one-to-remember-1617617.php

The Shamrock Bowl sounds like a fascinating disaster. Gives an interesting look at Rice Stadium and early efforts to bring pro football to Houston.

Nope. I was playing with Rice last year in my NCAA dynasty and I got that stadium packed before I left their ass for bigger and better schools

Rice Stadium is a great stadium for watching football. Of course, there's never any football there worth watching.

Other possibilities:

Wembley Stadium (London, England) 105,000
Historic Hyde Park or O-2 Arena won’t work, but this awesome venue would.

Kyle Field (College Station, Texas) 102,500
Recent plans to renovate/expand make this venue one of the future gems of college football.

Yankee Stadium (New York, N.Y.)
Football has been played there before and New York is New York.

Sanford Stadium (Athens, Ga.) 92,746
There may not be a more beautiful setting in all of college football.

Olympic Stadium (Berlin, Germany) 74,228
A stat of the art facility owns the world baseball attendance record with roughly 110,000.

Roman Colosseum (Rome, Italy) 50,000-70,000
Certainly some renovations would have to be made, but how cool would this be?

Michigan Stadium (Ann Arbor, Mich.) 109,901
The biggest stadium in the United States of any kind.

Melbourne Cricket Ground (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) 100,018
The rugby destination for Aussie football set a record with over 120,000 fans in 1970.

Daytona International Speedway (Daytona, Fla.) 167,785
Great weather, great seating, massive size, history, tradition, the beach.

Autzen Stadium (Eugene, Ore.) 54,000
Few stadiums pack as much punch than the Ducks home.
