I have a good Jeepin' buddy who lives in West Columbia and he took us for BBQ and it had the Mustard based sauces. A little different, but ok.

I am still of the school that good BBQ doesn't need sauce.

Corporal:
For the best Mustard base I like Maurice's Piggy Park. But Hudson's on hwy 378 in Lexington(about 10 miles from downtown Columbia) allows you to try all kinds. Their meat is prepared unsauced and the offer red, mustard and vinegar pepper based sauces for you to put on the meat.
I am not a big fan of the vinegar sauces but it is okay. Hudson's has a real good red sauce and 2nd best mustard base sauce in town.

When and where does the away team usually get off their bus?
gamecockhub
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Miller:
The visitors usually get off the bus at the corner of the stadium near where George Rogers Blvd and Bluff rd. meet. This is also the corner of the stadium with the will call window and the side opposite the Cockabooses. As to time it is usually around 3hrs before kickoff.

Where do the hotties tailgate?
gamecockhub
How long do you want to ignore this user?
KSigAg12:

They are all over. A lot of the students tailgate in a lot that is across Bluff Rd. from the stadium and behind the donor parking area. There is a side road between the NG Armory and the donor parking lot, the student area is at the end of this road. Many can be seen on Bluff Rd as there are several student apartment complexes off Bluff Rd and the lovely ladies are seen walking to and from tailgates. That area of Bluff is prime for viewing and meeting!

There is so much to do in Charleston! King st area, East Bay st area, Market st area has lots of restaurants and bars so many good places it is hard to make a bad choice. Sullivan's Island is also pretty nice and has a large number of spots as well. A good place to check out on Sullivan's is Poe's Tavern. A few things about Charleston, it has many one way streets in the old section of town where most of the nightlife and food is located. Also pay attention to the signs as many of the residential sections near the tourist areas are parking by decal only and they will tow. It may be best to park in a municipal parking garage and walk round King st and such. They have many signs directing you to the parking garages. Plus the College of Charleston is right near King st. so plenty of scenery!
Charleston has many historic sites and museums. You can also visit the WWII carrier USS Yorktown which is also home to the Medal of Honor museum just across the Ravenel bridge from Charleston. Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie are there. There are also tours of where the CSS Hunley submarine is being restored in the North Charleston area.
Charleston is the number one tourist destination in the state.
Myrtle beach is second. It is a typical beach area not unlike what you would find on the Texas Gulf Coast.
Any more questions just ask.

Any day above ground is a good one!

We are staying in Charleston as well, right on the beach. Are there any shuttles to take us to the game and back? I know we have those that go from Houston to College Station on game weekends.

Thanks for everything you have posted already.

Unfortunately no. There are no shuttles from other towns to the games. You will have to drive up and back. Wish I had a better answer for you.
Everyone is welcome, glad I can help some of you out.

Sheraton is quite nice and is about 5 blocks from the heart of the Vista! To get to the stadium, you can either take Assembly St. or Huger st. to the stadium . About 1 block up Main st toward the capitol from your hotel is a nice new restaurant and bar call Bourbon! It features cajun and creole food and obviously Bourbon!

Charlseton or Myrtle Beach for a day trip? Any advantages of one over the other? Personal preference?

history and a beautiful town or a nice, but heavily visited, beach. Lots of bikers in Myrtle at times, though I'm not sure if that was just when I've visited.

VanZandt92:
There are two huge bike weeks in the spring at Myrtle and a smaller one late Sept-early Oct. so if you were there then, yes there were a lot of motorcycles. Not like that the rest of the year.

Hey Gamecock,
Flying into Charleston, arriving 1:30pm on game day. Renting car and driving up for the 6pm game. How is the traffic? Will we have time to check in to the Marriott before the game do you think? How far is the Marriott from the stadium? Are there shuttles?
Thanks for all the help!

It is about an hour and a half drive to Columbia from Charleston. Man you are cutting it close! In my opinion you would be cutting it WAY TOO close to try and get parked and to the game if you checked in first. The Marriott downtown is just about 2-21/2 miles from the stadium but traffic will be HEAVY!!!! In my opinion your best bet is to not check in but go straight to park and get ready for the game. Take I-77 exit off I-26 and get off at the Bluff rd exit and go left.
If you must check in first, traffic will SUCK as you will have game traffic and end of workday traffic. There are shuttles that go from Colonial life Areana(USC basketball) to the game but that is it.Good luck and safe trip!

Gamecock, weave flying into Atlanta and departing for Columbia around 11:30 am. We are staying at Marriott off of Gateway Blvd/I77. Would you think we have time to check in hotel before game or will traffic be so bad that it better to head straight to game and find parking ? If so, what recommendations for parking would you have if we are coming in on I 20/126 ? Thanks
gamecockhub

If the flight leaves Atlanta near on time it is only a 30min flight so even worse case and you get here at 1, you should have time to check in. Do note that it will take you about 30 mins to get from the airport to your hotel.Traffic starts about 4hrs before kickoff so I feel you all should be okay. from where you all are staying I would take I-77, your hotel is at either exit 18 or 19 so take 77 to exit 5 which is Bluff rd. and the turn right and follow Bluff straight to the stadium.
Parking will start about a mile from the stadium the closer you get the higher the price. You should have no problems as all the businesses along Bluff sell parking on game day. For ease of getting back to your hotel I would park on the right side of Bluff as when the game is over Bluff rd becomes a one way road heading away from the stadium. Those two lanes of Bluff will put you right back on I-77 the way you want to go to return to your hotel. If you park on the left side of Bluff you will need to get over three lanes before you reach the big green signs for 77 as each lane will be coned then preventing lane changes. The only areas on Bluff that are not open to the public for parking are the Nastional Guard Armory and a couple of parking condos.

No problem, sorry I misunderstood. From Atlanta, unless you put Indy 500 drivers to shame you will get here around 3:30ish and your hotel is on the far side of Columbia. With kickoff at 6PM you should consider going straight to the game.

Take I-20 to I-26 get on I-26 toward Charleston then take I-77 exit and follow my previous post.
