No surprise here, but Texas A&M has been named as one of 16 schools to host an NCAA Regional in baseball this upcoming weekend! The Aggies join Baylor out of the Big 12 as a regional host. Rice was the only other Texas school that will be hosting in round one.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M's Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park was named one of 16 regional sites for the 66th annual NCAA Division I Baseball Championship on Sunday afternoon by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee.

By virtue of being awarded a regional, all 16 host institutions have also been selected to the 64-team field. This marks the school-record sixth consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament for the Aggies and the 28th overall selection to the tournament field.

This also marks the ninth time Oslen Field at Blue Bell Park will host an NCAA Regional. Baylor is the only other Big 12 school to be selected to host a regional, while Rice will also host a regional tournament in the Lone Star State.

Each regional field features four teams, playing a double-elimination format. All 16 regionals are scheduled to be conducted from Friday, June 1, to Monday, June 4.

The remaining at-large teams, top-eight national seeds, first-round regional pairing and site assignments will be announced on Monday at 11:00 a.m. (Central) during a live, half-hour program on ESPNU.

The full bracket will be announced on Monday at 11 a.m. CT. We'll broadcast TexAgs Radio tomorrow from 9-11 a.m. from Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park and we'll be on-hand for the A&M post-selection press conference shortly following the selection show on ESPN.

Which SEC team will come here? Do we have to reserve so many seats for visiting team per NCAA rules?

Of those 16, are we in the top 8? I think it will be close. A win or two against baylor and closing out that rice game would have made us a lock even with the early exit from the Big Debacle tournament.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Mills "Bracketology," the National seeds will be: 1) FSU, 2) Oregon, 3) Baylor, 4) LSU, 5) Florida, 6) UCLA, 7) UNC, 8) South Carolina. This was predicted before the weekend so could change. Selections are based on numerous factors beyond winning percentage, e.g., RPI, location, conference, venue.

So 4 hosted regionals in the past 6 years. That's really good. Building year-in and year-out consistency.

Also good to see the committee willing to give 5 regionals to one conference. The Ags may need that in future seasons in the SEC.

Note on the ESPN predictions: Oregon State swept Oregon this weekend. Expect Arizona to take UO's projected national seed

Could this mean we would travel to baylor for the super? This could be interesting the way things could play out.

Don't think two teams from the same conference can be matched up in the Supers (if they're both 1 seeds in their regionals).

Good opportunity for Ags to "rise to the occasion" and play some baseball.

My guess, and it's just a guess, is that it gives schools an extra day of notice to make announcements and prepare for hosting regionals.. While still allowing the rest of the day's results play out to determine seeding, etc.

We are either going to be paired with LSU or heading to either coast.

Delay to allow for all the conferences to finish their tourneys?
