Kendall Rogers who hates us thinks we have to win the Arkansas series and win a game or two in the tournament to host.
What leads you to think Kendall hates A&M?
I think it's a joke - Kendall supposedly hates all fan bases. It's a result of his being generally even handed and honest. Fans hate that *****
Great story about Kendall in his younger days. He had just started GoBig12baseball.com and he was still a student at A&M. He sat with our group a lot above the visitor's dugout. There was a wild game against OSU and Tom Holliday was getting heated about something and we were on him pretty good. So that Monday, Kendall calls Holliday to get some quotes and scoop as he usually did on a Monday, and Holliday said (paraphrasing) "I saw you up there on the dugout Kendall. I don't think you are getting your weekly brief today." I think he was half-joking, but I think Kendall realized he needed to change from fan to businessman.
Frank Anderson still remembers me yelling at him above the dugout back in the late 90s. He still laughs about it today. Holliday never took it personally and thought it was funny, too. Interestingly enough, I have/had great relationships with both of those guys.
Every time I go to games now, I really miss mid-to-late 90s Olsen Field. Man, those were the days atmosphere wise.
That's OK, you never got Frank tossed from a game.
I was at OSU for the A&M series every time during Frank's tenure, so I don't remember for sure which one it was, but, we're playing them in the afternoon with a really small crowd. I was sitting at the top of the 3rd base stands, and OSU was in the first base dugout. Frank always stood at the far end of the dugout, so I could see him all the time. As Frank was wont to do, he was riding the umpires pretty regularly on balls and strikes, to the point that the first base umpire (who was closest to Frank) walked over toward the dugout and told Frank he wasn't going to take any more. A little later (think it was the next inning) Frank starts chirping again, to the point that everyone could hear him. I yelled out to the first base ump (loud enough for all to hear), that Frank was showing him up by continuing to argue, at which point the umpire turned to Frank and told him, one more time, to shut up. Frank stepped out of the dugout and was immediately tossed. The fans in the stands were all over the umpire saying that he let a a fan get Frank tossed.
That was a good day at the park.
